Yes it does. I have just put mine in over the weekend and just happen to have the manual in front of me.

As you can see there are lots and lots of inputs/outputs. Now to work out if I want a flip down screen or headrest screens for the kids.

Thanks for that. Polaris should have their manual online.

Polaris tells me that the unit will utilise the Toyota harness. So the Toyota plugs will plug straight in. The previous owner of my Prado had an Eclipse rear camera installed into the sat nav unit. I have installed an ebay rear camera on my Tarago before and there was plenty of lining that came off. I'd rather not have to put in the Polaris camera into the Prado but reuse the Eclipse camera. I wonder if the Eclipse camera will work and whether it can plug straight into the Polaris?

Can the Toyota CD changer under the seat plug into the Polaris as well? (edit: actually this is not important once the ipod gets used)

          Re: Long Term Polaris owners

in the removed old polaris thread, if I recall, the Polaris wasn't always sold with a camera and it was cheaper to buy one. most people bought and installe an Ellipse BEC-106. This is from memory mind you, so I might be wrong, it may be a 105. These two are opposite of each other.
I ran out of time to hook up the reverse trigger wire for the rear camera. I know it works as I can use via the setup menu, and am told that there should be a blue wire there, I just can't recall. I'll find out this weekend I suppose.
Oh and I went 2 separate LCD screens for the kids, and can either use the unit or ipod direct to the screens, as they've got 2 AV.

ipod is the way to go, than a CDC, I reckon

Yes it can. Have a look at the first picture and the 3rd set of pins on the top row, the 3rd plug down has "V-IN Video Input" and "(Optional) Connected to camera" labelled. It takes a standard RCA input for the camera so you should be able to plug any camera to the unit.

Yes it is, the 4th set of pins last option is the "Disc changer transferring wire".

I was thinking the 2 screens so each (well it may be a bit difficult once the 3rd one grows up) can have what they want but I like the out of the way roof mount. May look at ways to mount the screens on the seatbacks (or headrests) so that it looks built-in and keep prying eyes away.

And I think I need an ipod.

              Re: Long Term Polaris owners

Had my polaris for a while now, and recently it has been having trouble reading CD, ie once inserted it thinks for a while 30s-1m than comes up with "no disc", other times the same CD works fine. If it is persistent I usually power down the unit (fuse) and that sometimes works immediately, but not always. Am reluctant to send back as most likely will work fine in the shop. Has anyone else experienced this?

                Re: Long Term Polaris owners

Cant say I have had that problem, but I have had a few others.
At one stage the screen faded, and blacked out. Initially it was intermittenly dull before blacking out. Then for no reason it started to work again a few days later.
This happened in warranty period but because it only lasted a few days, I never returned the unit. I had visions that they would set it up only to see it work normally and I would have paid dollars for postage with no fix.

A few months later the screen blacked out for several weeks while I was on holidays.
Upon returning home it burst into life and has worked normally, since. The unit was now out of warranty.
I could see with the blackout that I would have paid lots for repairs and postage for an item that may still be unreliable. That is if they could find the problem.

Another new problem that I had yesterday, had the sound lock up and shut up. Nothing was coming out of the speakers. I did the reset and it all worked and has since.

                  Re: Long Term Polaris owners

The screen has finally died on me and the unit is no longer any good.
It was still playing the radio and all the other things if you knew how to get there but was hopeless to me in that stage.
I got a few years out of it at least and while it had a few hangups it was good for the purpose.

I have sourced another brand with windows CE6.0 and 128MB ram. Just have to work the next one out and solve its bugs.

                    Re: Long Term Polaris owners

I've had my Polaris since 08, fitted it myself as soon as i brought the Prado.
I have had only a couple of little minor issues with the system, on the rare occasion whilst the radio screen is selected grey waves - lines go through the screen (doesn't really bother me a lot), when I don't drive the Prado for a while, and I first start the Prado the radio switch's the spectrum on and I have to go into the menu and find spectrum to disable it (that gets to me a bit) and when in nav mode sometimes the unit freezes up if I'm in a new suburb because the nav hasn't been updated and thinks the Prado is driving around in paddock, but a simple shut down reboot fixes that problem.
If I change into reverse whilst in radio mode I have to turn the reverse camera on manually through the menu options and then select radio again when I change back to fist gear (I really don't like that).
But overall I'm happy with the features of the Polaris for the price I paid for the system. Approx $1200 with reverse camera back in 08.

                      Re: Long Term Polaris owners

                      Hi all,

I have had a polaris for a few years now. I had the unit for over a year before I got around to installing it.
A few days after installing the unit failed with a blank screen on boot up. I contacted Polaris and they were
happy to fix it under warranty even though the 12 months warranty had expired, I was very happy with the customer service.

I have also installed the TPMS and it works well, only down side is they only sell the TPMS as a complete kit which
makes it a bit expensive when the batteries in the sensors finally go flat though I have had them in for 3 years
                      now and still going strong.

I also had them install ozi explorer which works well but is a tight fit on a 2gig card which is the highest capacity
card Polaris say you can use in my unit, fortunately I have found a 4 gig card that will work in my unit. Current models
I think now come with a 4gig card as standard.

As for the DVD playing, there is a factory setup screen, in this screen you can set the DVD to play at anytime
and not blank when car in motion.

I have installed the gps under the dash near the radio and it works ok though I have found that in heavily wooded areas it looses
the satellites sometimes and I suspect the location under the dash is the problem but will put up with it.

In all very happy with the unit and customer service.

                      Cheers

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but is relevant. We have a 2006 VX bought last week and under orders from SWMBO she’s picked a Polaris head Unit, I would prefer a Joying but that’s a different thread. I would love to hear if everyone who has installed a Polaris is still using it, especially if it is a unit 12-18 months old as that is still the current offerings?
