          Hi,

Just like everyone else I am sick of not being able to access some satnav menu's whilst moving. I have the 26028 satnav in a 2008 Grande and was wondering if anyone had tried the Tundra mod on this model satnav.

Secondly can anyone confirm the colour of the speed pulse wire. In the Tundra mod it is white, in the abve post bundy says it is pink/blue, but I don't have any wires of these colours running to a grey plug.

Based on the photo of the white wire from the Tundra mods location on the grey plug I am asuming my speed sensor wire is the purple/white one below.

I have also tried unpluging my GPS antenna and driving around and the satnav unit still senses I am moving and disables some of the menu items. I think it is safe to assume in my model that the speed pulse sensor controls access to these menus, not the GPS signal.

Last but not least, if I can establish which is the correct speed pulse wire is there any reason I need to go to all the effort of building the circuit in the Tundra mod or could I just cut the wire and put a simple on/off switch on it?

          Would appreciate any advice.

          Cheers

Ok, I eventually got around to doing this mod on my Prado.

I'm in South Africa so the wiring colours and things my not be identical.

In any event, my Prado is a 2008 model and I was able to solve the mind-numbingly annoying problem that everyone complains about with the satnav not allowing user input while the vehicle is in motion.

Here's a photo of the rear of my satnav unit and another of the connector:

The only thing I needed to do was to fit a switch in line with the speed pulse wire.

When the switch is open the satnav gets no pulses and things the vehicle is sationary. When the switch is clsoed it all works as usual.

There are a couple of side effects to this.

When the switch is open, you can do whatever you like on the unit in the way of entering addresses etc but the unit will not be keeping track of your location while in this mode, so, when you're done, you have to close the switch again and wait two or three seconds for the unit to update and then the displayed map will suddenly jump to the correct position.

To me this is a non-issue. The usefulness of being able to enter data while on the move far outweighs the very minor issue of having to wait a couple of seconds for the map to update when done.

If you have a CD with MP3 files on it, then this mod allows you to browse your music collection, read file names etc while on the move too.

Suddenly my satnav unit isn't quite the white elephant I always thought it was. It is actually usable now.

Awesome Tim, you have achieved exactly what I want.

You have also confirmed that I have located the correct wire for the speed pulse. I cut into it today and install a switch and report back with the result.

              Thanks again.

For those that may be interested I installed a simple on/off switch on the speed pulse wire (the purple/white one in my 2008 Grande - see previous post).

When the switch is in the off position it gives me full access to all the menu option. There is a bit of a catch . . . . after about a minute or so the GPS must kick in and the satnav unit realises that you are moving and locks you out of some of the menu options again. This is not a great problem as it gives you plenty of time to type in an address or access the phone keypad.

Obviously this is why the guy who did the Tundra mod made himself a circuit to trick the satnav into thinking it is doing 5km/h. I am now going to make this circuit and install it as his instruction on the website are really simple. I don't think I really need it but it looks like a bit of fun.

For the time being the simple on/off switch is going to make my life a lot easier.

                  Re: Toyota GPS SatNav

                  Hi Guys,

I recently had a failure with my GPS head unit which it wasn't able to display any maps. To my surprise it turned out to be a disc failure and Toyota kindly replaced this with a Version 14 disc - previous was Version 12.

The only problem now is that the overwrite function that previously worked now does not ie Menu, Volume, top right, bottom right, top right, bottom right, override.

Does anyone have any clues as to whether the disc could impact on this overwrite feature and whether there is another way back in?

My Prado is a 2006 model

Hopefully someone knows - spoke to Toyota but they wouldn't tell me how to get into it - liability and all that crap

                  Cheers Pappy

                    Re: Toyota GPS SatNav

                    Pappy,
I had the same issue when I upgraded my 2006 Grande GPS headunit to Whereis v14. I lost the ability to 'override' the gps unit. It took a few minutes to load the new disk (v14) when I put it in, almost like it was updating the firmware or something. Losing this override ability greatly annoyed the wife.
Hopefully this will be corrected (or atleast an override 'feature' put back in) in v15. Whereis v15 is due out this year (2009) http://poweredby.whereis.com/shop/It...=21&PageID=376.

Its all about the WAF.

                      Re: Toyota GPS SatNav

Hi there, this my first post. I have a 2006 Grande which was purchased 4 months ago. The only thing I don't love about it is that the GPS only seems to work for a few hours in the morning. After that the GPS mark goes off and slowly the GPS looses its way. Around town this does not seem to matter but in the country which is when I need it most, it plays up and becomes useless. Can any one help me here. Romano

Anyone got an updated overide for this GPS lockout when moving. None of the above works for my Sep 07 D4D. Thanks.

You've really got no option but to install a switch on the speed sensor wire. It is really easy and works perfectly.

                            Re: Toyota GPS SatNav

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't know where the DVD player is for the Toyota GPS.

I have a 2003 Prado the one that has no model number on the headunit face. It has a slot for CD and Tape behind the screen and a 6 stack player under the front passenger seat (don't know why it was put there and not in the space in theglove box :? )
Anyway if someone can advise me where to look as I want to upgrade the disc.

A friend has a BMW X5 and his DVD is located in the rear cargo area next to the 6 disc stacker.

                            Cheers,

                              Rolf,

It's under the driver's seat. You need to slide the driver's seat all the way forward, then access it from the back.

I knew it had to be simple, I did a quick hand under the drivers set but I should have really looked ops: hopefully there will be no more dump questions from me  but dont hold your breath.
