A quick 5 minute addition when I got home this afternoon.

With this fuse block, each accessory has its own -ve to the chassis.

Thanks man, it's good to be back in a 120. The smile hasn't left my face yet.

I've already cut it down and one of the welders here at work is making up a wind deflector for me. The weight was a big problem for me. I had to use a pulley to get it on an old car and it was 2.2m long. Now it's down to 1.6m and I can lift it onto the car in 5 sec. I settled on 1.6m because the tent I'm going to buy is 1.4m long, so this will give me a little extra.

Matt, I may have to take you up on that if I have a problem re-running some of the wiring. I'm going to install a fuse block in the engine bay to handle all the external accessories (electric brakes, lights, compressor & whatever else), it shouldn't be a prob but you never know.

Looks like that paint work needs some custom pin stripes... Should be able to get a share on this years GTG mate!
    Good luck with the mods...

Let me know if you need a few additional hands - sounds like the boys will be round my joint a fair bit for all their own mods...

Gramps, good to see you back into a prado! I'll keep an eye out for it around the club.

I have a bigger UHF (old style) and I have mounted in the centre console against the vertical wall right by the drink holders. Yours is a lot smaller so will fit there even better. I have an extension speaker under the dash and mic extension lead in the ash tray. Unplug the mic and no one would ever know its in there.

Also, I reckon my DIY flat roof storage platform (no sides) is about 2m long. Heaps of room. Don't go cutting yours down too short. If you're concerned about the weight, take the sides off. I would. Don't see much use for them personally.

You've sold me. I've just been reading threads on how to remove the centre console so this will tie in nicely.
Cheers guys, I'll take photos a I go and post them up.

Mine's a tad different as mine is a remote head unit as oppose to yours which is a remote mic unit. The remote head unit is fitted under the ashtray, so the curly cord is out of the way of my legs. The mic is fitted to the square blanking plate to the left of the steering column. The curly cord does touch my knees but not annoyingly so.

i have the same unit the 3540, took no time at all installing, the face i screwed the bracket to hold it into those little switch inserts next to 120w aux plug, that way i fiqure if i take it out to sell just gota put new switch things in and no holes i dash, if you go to a signmaking place i got a tiny bit of double sided tape for the hand piece holder, (no holes in dash) its a 3m product its real tough stuff the hang signs with it nowadays. and the base i just put inside the glovebox in that top compartment, easy as, cords easy run along and down to the face, took 20mins, the power i stole from that 120w plug. thats how i done it. . . i Hate putting holes in my dash thats all, this way i can take it out and for 3 dollars i can make it look like i never had a two way in there.

I just installed mine recently, different unit though (Oricom UHF180) and on discussion with 1coolbanana, I installed the main unit behind the dash panel under the steering wheel column. There is just enough space for it.

If you do decide to mount it there, take note that the back of the dash panels are ribbed for a bit of rigidity. The mounting bracket won't sit flush because of these ribs. So I first put a screw through the dash panel from the front and secure it in place with a washer and nut from the rear. The nut is then flush with the ribs and allows the mounting bracket to go on.

I have no problems with the speaker being behind the dash panel. Still plenty of volume adjustment if required.

I just picked up a new GME TX3540 with the AE4702 antenna for touring and a little one for around town. Pretty happy with a price of $570 for the lot.
Now to decide whether to wire it straight up to the 2nd battery, or hook into the accessory power feed. I like the idea of haveing power to the unit all the time, as long as I remember to turn it off when I'm finished.
What are the pro's and cons for using the auxillary battry?
Can anyone tell me where they've installed this unit in their rigs. I'm about to scroll through all the threads and have a look at other installs, but if anyone can help out it would make life easier.
I always wire mine to auxiliary.

If you do happen to leave it on its not going to kill the battery as they draw very little power.

Sure am. Still have the springs that I was going to put under the other Prado. I'm trying to get a good price from OL on a set of Tough Dog shocks. Hopefully it'll be installed by the middle of next month.

Silver's ok, I am still partial to white but beggars can't be choosers.
