ah cool, good luck with that! :-)
The RAM-Mount post works pretty good, it vibrates a bit due to the alloy-tube, but keeps the tablet in place and absorbes bigger vibrations and bumps from the car a bit, which I think is nice.
BTW: You should tighten the bolts after a few thsd kms a bit more, cause the steel lower clamp catches the alloy tube better then. You'll realize when it's time for retighting, cause the post will get a bit loose then. I did this first at 1.500kms and will now do it again after further 5.000kms.
If you want the whole post to be stiffer, you could fix it additionally e.g. to the side of middle tunnel with a clamp.
The X-Grip itself works very well, the tablet so far never lost it's exact position in the rubber fingers. An even more robust RAM-alternative would be the "Tab-Tite"-Version of the RAM Tablet holders, available I think in serveral sizes, too.
BTW Nr2: I got the part-Nrs of the two arcticles i used to get my tablet into the car. Attached them to my previous "tablet post".

Hi Borec,
yeah that might be a big point, I can't speak for Aussie-conditions - only for Europe.
On our holiday, we one day drove about 50km of (due to rain quite hard and corrugated) beach sand, with several little creeks crossing, and about 10km of quite corrugated path through a military area. That was no problem, the post hold the tablet well readable in place and absorbed some heavier hits (eg. several tank tracks crossing at 65km/h) through its slight flexibility (rubber ball joint). We drove with quite much tire pressure, so the vibrations are a bit more than others might have.
What I don't know, is how good this will work after years of Aussie tracks.
The steel version might in fact be an option for you, but yeah, it's bloody expensive. I could try making a video of the tablet installed in my car, driving a short track or quarry or something like that, if this might help you. Of course we do not have Aussie conditions here :-D As mentioned before, an additional bracket at the side of the middle tunnel could be an option for a stiffer post.
Regards

Hey folks,
long time no hear - but me and my prado are still alive!
Some changes were made over the time, but the concept of a non-complicated, relatively light touring rig is still the same. The prado will cross the 220k soon and runs quite well, except of some things that get worn when a car gets older (bushes, struts, ...).
I got a wrecked compressor for the air suspension system a while ago, but fortunately it happened at home. The compressor got changed.
I also changed a wrecked alternator and the factory dual batteries and some wheel bearings and bushes.
Meanwhile we also got a roof top tent and a airtec snorkel. That's what the rig looks like at the moment:
Things in progess or coming closely:
- Bought WAECO CFX-40W fridge
- LED-bar below the roof rack is installed, wiring to do
- painting all chrome on the outside in black (in progress)
- CB-Radio and antenna are to be installed and wired soon
- wiring accessories like fridge and additional loading plugs to do
- Change struts, shocks and further bushes that are worn

Thanks mate, good to hear you follow my mods!
I'll try to keep my thread more up-to-date now...totally forgot about it for a while
At the moment, I'm "dipping" all chrome parts black, one after one.
- Front is done (don't mind the slight snowfall, the photos are serveral weeks old). I just sprayed the chrome, because I like the grey ground color of the frame.
- Brand new letters for the back door are in progress. The old letters became quite ugly, the chrome came off at some letters. So that was the chance to change it completely.
Mounting of the letters still to come.
Cheers

Thanks juz. I like it much more too!
Meanwhile, I'm doing some other small things that waited to be done.
Sorry for the mess around the bench, in winter there's a lot of stuff storing in this tiny room, including the pioneer platform and this time 2 complete sets of 32s :-D
1. Brackets for the LED-bar. Will be screwed into M6 rivet nuts.
Made of 2,8mm alloy - will be sprayed black.
And the bracket for the CB-radio-antenna is soon to be reported, too! :-D
Cheers
