Another little quality of life mod installed a few days ago. I was frustrated a little by how basic the factory information screen is, so I purchased an android headunit from china and installed it. Now I've got the best of both worlds- An awesome kenwood headunit which does all my audio and on road navigation, and the android unit which runs Torque Pro and also has HEMA maps installed for when I decide to go offroad. I'm really pleased with how the unit sits in the dash, and I've completely done away with the aeropro fascia kit that I thought I was going to have to hack up to get it to sit right. I'd like to thank Krytox for giving me the idea and providing me with a little help as to how he managed it.

I've attached some photos, but this website seems intent on either flipping them on their side (when I take the photos in portrait) or flipping them upside down (when I attempted to upload them again after taking them in landscape). If anyone could enlighten me as to why it does this I'd be much obliged.

Thats is a very cool mod. Can I ask which android unit you purchased and where from.

Yeah mate, it's a "pumpkin" branded unit. One thing that I was careful of when I purchased it was to ensure it was the right size. Toyota headunits are a funny size and aren't exactly double din. My dash setup has the aeropro fascia kit installed, which swaps the factory arrangement- Placing the trip computer in the spot where the factory stero is and thereby providing space up top for a headunit (although you have to be extremely careful which size you purchase as it's not the standard "double din" size as I mentioned before- Aero pro state on their website that the maximum inside dimensions are "202 mm W x 102 mm H").

For the sake of clarification, the link to the aeropro kit is here (I purchased mine from autobarn): https://aerpro.com/vehicles/toyota/t...9_2013#aerpro-

The bottom slot where I have the android unit isn't restricted as such on space, but I've been able to recycle the factory mounts for the Toyota standard stereo without issue, the mounts go back where they always were originally, the screw pattern is the same as the factory unit and it sits in the correct spot without any cutting/ chopping etc. I don't believe the installation would be as smooth with a larger unit, there is basically no space left in the dash with 2 headunits in there and cutting and bending of the factory stero mounts would probably be required to make it fit- As well as drilling new holes in it to mount the headunit.

EDIT: Here's the link to the unit I purchased
        https://www.autopumpkin.com/pumpkin-...dio-audio.html

I'm aware this is a bit jumbled and If you've got any questions PM me, I can pull the plastics and take a few more piccys of the way I've set things up in there if you've got any more questions.

My next missions is to try and get them connected audio wise- I've tried bluetooth but they don't want to be friends. My next attempt will involve either USB and failing that, plain old RCA plugs.

Thanks for the info mate. Would love to get that pumpkin android unit fitted into the storage space in my dash.

Yeah, I'm really happy with it at the moment mate- The only headache at the moment is getting sound from one to the other. My Kenwood unit must be a snob, because it's got no intention of connecting with bluetooth- And when I tried to do wifi mirroring the other day it just flashed all these funky colours up and then turned off (only tried that once). I've also got to find a new home for my UHF- Thinking either glovebox card holder, or in the drivers side foot well behind the trim.

Mate I just purchased a cheap one of eBay, think it cost around 17 bucks.

So I had nothing to do this afternoon so I thought I'd pop off my intake pipe and have a look at my EGR- They always say ignorance is bliss, and I believe it now. Looks like I've well and truly got the cancer- Will probably be doing a full EGR clean either this weekend or sometime very soon.

EDIT: I've contacted Osbush about purchasing one of his EGR off modules, would love to hear from anyone who has got one of these fitted/ have had any horror stories- I'm particularly interested in the trim dial for the fuel and how much of a difference (if any) this makes to performance or economy.
                  Cheers

Purchased Ozbushes EGR kit today along with a transmission cooler kit from Kaon as I've been seeing my temps go up a bit lately and I figure this is a very cheap insurance policy to prevent any damage and extend the life of the tranny. Will put some pics up when they go in, will likely happen in a few weeks at a mates place when we pull the front of the car off to put the winch in.

Had my one done few month ago. Bracket and cooler install took about 20 min. Wrapped piping with some K-Flex Pipe Insulation to stop rubbing. Needs about 300mL Penrite LV Automatic Transmission Fluid. Fill up the cooler and lines could make some mess, be prepared.

I'm not sure on the fluid side of things what I need to use. I know my mechanic uses a caltex brand of transmission oil when my car is serviced. I'm unsure if I can just buy another brand of oil (even if it is the same spec) and put it in my gearbox without causing dramas- I'll have to ring him and ask him next week (everything in town is shut today due to the local show being on).

Penrite LV is the same as Toyota WS if not better. Supercheap has 30% off all Penrite oil. $29.24 for 4L is a steal. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Pro...4-Litre/396357

Yep, ended up topping it up with Penrite LV, I figured that as long as it is the same spec as the castrol stuff (which it is) then there'd be no harm mixing the two. The transmission runs far, far cooler than it used to- I've seen a drop in temperature of about 25-30 degrees.

Fitted my EGR solution today from Ozbush, glad to see that the codes aren't being thrown and that my car is no longer slowly choking itself. A full cleanup of the EGR will be required as the car has nearly 200K on it and to my knowledge has never been cleaned. Ozbush and his instructions are a bit of a hard slog, but as English is not his first language that's understandable- They are readable and can be followed, although some of the more technical discussion on the instructions of the mapper are still a bit vague. A mate and I installed the blanking plate and brain box for it in around 45 minutes- Although most of the time was spent swearing and cursing trying to get at hard to reach bolts and the act of installing the plate itself requires smaller and more nimble hands than I possess (hence my mate helping).

While installing the blanking plate I must have lent on the line from the top of the radiator to the overflow tank- Clearly the plastic is very brittle as I was scalded with very hot water when the barb broke and shot the hose off. I managed to get in with a dremel and grind off the supports for what was left of the barb and get the hose back on, I'm now looking at possibly trying to come up with a way of using the bung on top of the rad. as a way to get the water out and into the header tank- And if i can I'll plastiweld up the old barb. I guess it's a sign of the times, but I can't help feeling that an old metal radiator wouldn't have had problems like that, I guess the heat cycles kill the plastic and it becomes brittle.

*EDIT: Thought I'd clarify that the self tapper was used to get the snapped off bits of barb out of the hose.

Ticked a big milestone off today, finally managed to organise a free weekend with some of my mates and we ripped the old ECB bar off (incidentally which is now in the for sale section for anyone interested) and installed my gumtree ARB bar, non gumtree Runva Winch and Roadsafe recovery points. The finished product looks fantastic and I'm really happy with it- I'm now much safer offroad (thanks to the recovery points) and more secure in recovery situations (thanks to the winch). One thing that really suprised me about the whole process is how much hardware is in those alloy bars- I think my ARB had 8 bolts holding it in, the alloy bar has probably over 20, although a big part of that is the winch box which is basically made out of 5-7mm plate steel.
