Went for a over nighter to sandy cape near jurien north of Perth did a few tracks

car now has 26,000km feels like it’s responding better and has a little more power ??

Nothing to big to report, been on a few trips cars been awesome as usual, getting some decent pin stripes the missus doenst like to much !

car went in for 30k service yesterday, got a phone call saying coolant is low and is going/leaking somewhere so far is at Toyota getting Welch plus fixed up,

noticed it was a little low when I do my pre trip check ups, also noticed before taking car for service the oil was on the lowest marker on the dip stick, Toyota has advised to keep a eye on it.. but have had no issues with the car.. all covered under warranty

hopefully get the prado back tomorrow!

Welsh plug replacement already? That's just unlucky but no big deal and thankfully someone elses job

Low oil is interesting, can happen on new engines, before they bed in, but by 30k's that engine should be well and truly bedded in.

Have also seen it happen with old/hot oil as it burns off the impurities in it and lowers the overall level.

Yeah it’s a shame the Welch plug is damaged already I hate “Toyota apprentices “ working on a car sometimes dramas happen afterwards..

maybe all the oil is in the egr and intake aha :/

Mmm some will be, hard to know what low on the dipstick means though.

In the Missus Mazda6, it goes from low on the stick to above the H with 150-200ml, I freaked out once when I checked it just prior to a service and it was below the L mark on the stick, dropped the oild and 4.8L came out, it holds 5-5.1L so really it was fine.

On the Prado high and low seems to be much further apart.

Have you got any idea what the capacity change is between high and low?

You can check the intake for oil build up though and pop a catch can on it if too, always a good idea on a turbo car anyway, Just make sure it's baffled internally.

Just got a call from Toyota.. they rang Toyota hq or where ever it is and they weren’t to happy with the core plus leaking with only 30,000km on the car. So they are putting a new engine in it woo?? Hopefully all is wel

That seems like overkill for a Welsh plug, however it doesn't seem like overkill for an engine using oil, I wonder which issue triggered the replacement.

As was the case for another person on here with a 2.8 that got repalced (timing chain issue), he ended up needing to go back a number of times due to missed/broken parts and noted some damage (indented scratches) to the firewall.

Engine in/out is big job with a heap of little things that need doing properly. Yes all under warranty but nobody is paying you for the time/hassle of being without your car or taking it back and forth. Put your hand up for a decent loaner car etc.

Take photos of engine bay if you can, all angles, the firewall, radiator support, underneath if possible etc so you can show them "before" if you are unhappy with after.

In his case, the new engine was actually only a long block. If you know what that means, sweet, but for anyone else readsing who doesn't , that means they need to strip all accessories/manifolds etc off the old engine to re-use (Long Block = bottom end and cylinder head only). That's a lot of potential chances for things to not be resealed/reseated/connected properly.

Hopefully it all goes well and without drama, really comes down to the quality of the dealership itself.

Agree, that would have been my case, i did get a good outcome at the end just now waiting for final close out of the case.

After those few initial issues when i got it back the car has been running great since with no further issues.

Like Dan mentioned, if you can, take heaps of photos of the engine bay in case you arent happy with something when you get it back.

Make sure they take those few extra minutes to remove clips and items properly instead of pulling and gouging at them, protect what can be protected when they are removing and reinstalling the engine ie the firewall insulation and give it a good look over when complete to make sure no tools are left behind, everything is that is visible is put back together properly etc.

I hadn’t taken any pictures but I have some older ones when I did my battery instal, car has been there since it went in for a service “Tuesday” , my cousin is a manager there so hopefully they do a decent job knowing that, also it’s a full engine that’s getting put In, I made sure to ask and sus it out so hopefully all is good!

ive told them to take there time im in no rush so hopefully that’s what they do and do a decent job, because After paying so much for a car I want it to be decent and last me years !

Clarify, in writing, what "full engine" means.

It's incredibly rare for Toyota to do a crate engine swap and not just a long block.

It’s a crate engine my cousin works there as parts manager and he was the one who had to track one down,

That's a long block.

Ask him to show you the new manifolds, turbo, etc.

When I say "crate engine" I mean complete, turn key engine, assembled in the factory ready to go. Same state of completeness that they are when slotted into the car.

I don't thnk I'd ever buy a newer model Toyota diesel.
