  • True about the regional coverage, its not available outside many CBD's. The unit comes with a separate DAB+ antenna.
The dual USB's means you can have an apple cable and an android cable connected at the same time. Only one of the outputs support apple carplay though so keep that in mind.

    • Great info thanks. Do you mean onenome Apple device at a time or do you mean specifically only one of the USB ports supports apple functionality?

I just assumed it would charge via USB but run carp wirelessly.

9 times out of 10 it'll be me in the car with the only phone connected, which will be by cable for charging anyway.

      • Apple devices are supported on the Black USB terminal, Android devices work on either...

        • Cheers, haven't even started looking.

Was kind of hyped when I ordered it but lost the care factor after 3-4 weeks, then it just became an issue to sort.

Now I can get hype again I guess?

          • Finally.

Accidentally sent me two cameras also.

I wonder how they compare to the stock rear and if it's better, if I can retro fit the new one in.

            • Good stuff, the stock reverse camera in my experience is actually very good once you display the image on a decent screen like the one on the kenwood unit.

Just remember the stock camera is 6 volt (not 12v) so you need to use a voltage converter to make it work.

So the loom isn't just plug and play....

Aeropro told me it did it all in the loom.

                • The aerpro loom isnt purely plug and play, you will need to wire the reverse wire from the car side of the plug and connect the black wire to ground.

Remember on page 10 of this post I wrote...

"The things you will need to get the soldering iron out for are

Antenna cable adapter blue wire to the blue wire on the Kenwood
Find the reverse wire on the car side of the plug (for me it was Pin2 from memory) to wire into your reverse camera power adapter (12V to 6V converter cable)
Wire the handbrake wire to Ground to allow use of unit by the passenger while moving.

Dont forget to set reverse camera interruption to On in the settings so that when you stick it reverse it will show the rear camera view automatically. This was off by default on my unit."

                  • Yep I remember, legend then, legend now

I looked at the centre stack this morning, all the plastics and clips and just felt sad about what's to come lol

                    • OK stereo done, not hugely complicated but fairy time consuming when you add in all the steps required - Here's some notes from my install.
                      • Getting the RCA for front camera into the cabin was a bit painful, I used the factory grommet on the passenger side and ended up simply removing the plug end and soldering it back together on the other side, should have just done that sooner. The wires are very thin so it's not the easiest of in field solder (I'm also not liking my new soldering iron, but it could just be the solder itself).
                      • Full centre stack out and you need to pretty much fully deconstruct the fuel computer screen from its mount to put in to the aeropro mount.
                      • The aeropro upper fascia mount is decent (for the head unit), the lower one (for fuel computer) is not as good, particularly on the tabs on the rear where the factory toyota trim clips are supposed to slide on but the holes in those tabs don't line up and when they pop off they WILL launch down into the depths of the exposed trans tunnel lol
                      • I did not need the aeropro Kenwood patch harness, the Kenwood plug in the box connected up to my plugs no worries, Automotive superstore said they would take it back if it wasn't needed, see how we go with that.
                      • I did use the aeropro rear view camera retention harness and it only works if it's actually connected to the screen, I tested without and at no point will it give an image otherwise (due to earthing most likely). Given I want to ditch that lower fascia element and fuel computer for the factory storage compartment, I will have to work out if it's an earthing thing or I can just cable tie the screen up behind the dash securely where it will never be seen, will source that compartment first. Over $250 from Amayama which seems a bit steep.
                      • Reverse camera worked no worries after reverse trigger wire was tapped, for me it was this red wire in the loom to the fuel computer. There are 2 red wires, but the other one joins up with 2 others, this one is solo all the way down the loom. Can't say the image looks amazing on screen, but it's on par with the front camera, which also worked no worries.

                      • Steering wheel controls work, and better than factory because you can program what each button does so the voice button is now a Google Assistant button for me. The plug on the patch lead from Kenwood was no good to me so I removed it and tapped the 3 wires on the 20p stereo plug as per the Kenwood pdf.
                      • The head unit sits a little high for my liking, leaving a solid 2mm gap on the lower edge. I've adjusted it as low as possible on the stereo brackets to the unit itself and to the car (it may also be an issue with the size of the fascia opening). To go lower I'd need to open up the mounting holes a little and I had run out of time, patience, and back comfort.
                      • Microphone install is simple enough, mine sits on the a-pillar.
                      • I'd like to customise what's on the lower part of the screen, I don't need an icon for DAB as an example (and did not wire the antenna in), but I haven't played long enough to work it out.
                      • Settings menu's are contextual and will give you different options depending on the screen.
                      • The unit itself seems decent, maybe too bright and I think I have turned down the backlight as far as I can go already, but I only found that backlight screen once and can't find it again lol
                      • Android auto worked wirelessly straight out of the box, despite the specs saying it was wired - I may have been confused with another model, but I could've sworn it said wired only, either way, wireless working fine.
                      • I've run my 2 USB cables just under the transmission plastics for now until I decide if they will come up there or go through the back of the storage compartment.
                      • I easily spent 5-6hrs on this, including extra fiddle time to make fascia fit nicely as possible, conduit on cables, etc etc 0_0
The forum is stupid about how it handles images so I've dumped them here.

                      • Oh and unrelated to the Prado, but how good does this port work look on my engine being built (SR20 VVL for my race car).

Your unit is definitely wired and wireless, their manuals cover off a few different kenwood models so you might have been looking at the DMX820 section
With the USB cables, I ran one of them into the glove box

Great job on the install btw

                          • This is the spec page - https://www.kenwood.com/au/car/visua...n/ddx920wdabs/

It notes wireless Carplay, but Android Auto via USB when you scroll down, then also notes wireless mirroring.

So I'd say it's a stuff up/not made clear enough in the product info. I'm happy though

Cheers for your help, your info definitely expedited a few points.

Forgot to ask, the blue antenna plug, what was it for again? booster or something? I ended up leaving it disconnected and am not having any reception issues, but have only tested it here at home.

                              • I just connected it to the remote amp on wire from the kenwood unit to supply 12v when the unit is on. I don't think it actually does anything unless Toyota have some signal boosting amp on their antennas.
