Ha ha.... but I imagine BMW could squeeze 200kw and 500nm out of a 1.6.....

Next Prado my be a hybrid knowing the path Toyota is taking...

You'll notice that is a transverse mount engine and only a 1.6l - designed for "small" cars.

1.6ltr engine in the size vehicle like the Prado..... no thanks. If that happens here, I think I'll be looking else where.

The engine in the picture/story is only the first one to production in 2014 for small cars, I'm sure by the time the Prado replacement comes around they'll have something a little larger in the pipeline.

BMW do a 3lt turbo diesel (N57S) with 280kw and 740nm, lets hope the Toyota/BMW relationship continues :-)

Fat chance though, the engine supply exercise is all about Toyota having diesel engines that meets new and up coming Euro emissions standards. Toyota are putting their R&D dollars into Hybrid technology but they still need diesels for some markest.

forgetting all the pie in the sky stuff, I'd just be happy to put the 160Kw 3.0 Litre turbo diesel I have in my current X5 into my Prado. The torque, refinement and "quiteness" is chalk and cheese, and yes I know so is the price.

I would buy a "hybrid Prado" built by BMW if it looked like this:

I recently went in to a mate's european workshop in brisys (which will remain anonymous). Just let me say, pretty sad to see so many newish BMW's in his shop with motors dropped out, gearboxes dropped out due to massive failures....

Not sure if they are much better than toyota from what I saw
