How is a motorbike meant to have a 2.5mtr sand flag attached?

That's my thoughts exactly. Is the Simpson getting that busy that running into people over dunes is becoming a real problem?
        Can't we just keep travelling?

Not the way I went but generally yes, when we hit the QAA line it was like Rundle street (SA members will get Rundle St)

I notice the size flag required is actually bigger than the few common brands I've measured. Wonder who actually makes this size or who came up with the size required?.

Maybe the solution would be to run the traffic one way on even numbered days then the opposite direction on odd numbered days.
Oh that's right we've tried that in this state before haven't we!!

That's the kind of progressive thinking we've come to expect from our politicians in SA. How about westbound in the mornings and eastbound in the evenings? At least you wouldn't be looking into the sun.

That's maybe not as silly as it sounds, they could always make the Desert one way, change it every other year. East West in even years, West East in odd years. That would give each side of the dunes a year to recover from being chopped up by all the people running with pressure too high! And it would eliminate any chance of a head on.

There has been discussion about doing just that with the one way section of the Border Track, but I doubt anything will come of it.

                    Cheers Andrew

Not a bad idea, by the way thank Christ I (and the Nissan Patrol I encountered) had Sand Flags on the CSR....otherwise one or more of us could be dead!!

Once I hit any sort of sandy country with dunes, or tracks without a lot of vision each way its the first thing I grab!!

How you stick one on a KTM or similar I am not sure!!

                        Hi All,

I would have liked to see another measure put into place - that being a Std Location for the Sand Flag on Bullbars.
I mean should it be the Right side or Left side?

The way I read it, there was no mention of this, only talking about the height of the sand flag.

Bullbar mounted ones should be on the left side so they arent in the drivers field of view for normal driving. They should also be mounted behind the loops on the bar and not in front apparently to reduce injury in the event of hitting a pedestrian. I recall wading through the Qld transport regulations years ago and there were some vague references to mounting accessories like flags and base antennas but it was a sod to find

Just thinking would the one's Amts is currently selling suffice?

                            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ety-Whip-1-86m

His awning bracket would make it well above 2.0metres??

                            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ckdown-feature

I like the versatility of the knock down awning bracket as I have an awning.

Have not crossed the desert yet but would like to one day!!! Thanks

Edit..looks like it's too short after reviewing the dimensions..shame I'd thought about buying one? Gunna have to buy a special flag now for each sand outing/trip??
