    • I’m new here! I was recently gifted a really neat 1996 90 series V6 VX Grande.

It has done 575,000 K’s but genuine country k’s and majority done on lpg. The old girl still seems to pull hard and the transmission is smooth. Only concern is a burning smell when you get our after a drive and some time can have a “rich” smell in the cabin.

Should I expect her to die soon? Was well looked after by previous owner. Also any ideas on the smells.

      Cheers

Smell could be valve cover gasket leak or ATF leak if an auto. Valve cover gaskets are famed for leaking on these engines

            • My 2000 V6 90 series (383,900km) has the same smell! Leaky rocker cover gaskets. On my list to do one day.

RedAdventureWagon, my mechanic neighbour fixed my gaskets around 300,000-350,000km. Reasonable price, but he may be too far away for your convenience. That was the only oil leak that I had with that old truck.

                • watsea will definitely will keep him in mind - sometimes it's worth travelling the extra distance especially for an old school mechanic! Got to fix the brakes and ABS on my car first, my wife has started to complain about them squealing and I don't want her to adopt the Prado again!

Such low kms for a car of that age. If it’s in good condition inside & out that’d sell quickly with those sort of k’s. My 90 series did 400,000km and then it was time for an upgrade. Damn reliable car though. I’d like to see a Ford Ranger get to those kms without it costing you $20,000 in repairs by that stage.
2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

Its in good nick Brett, Had from new and only really used for long trips or towing campers and now van. Goes well but had to recently get a 2" lift as it was dragging its bum a bit.
Looked at getting something new recently but not much available in petrol ( never been convinced on new diesels) and best offer for it was $15k so decide to keep it for a few more years.
Beside all the time and cost in getting it set up would be wasted. Only thing I need to do is look into why it still drops 50mm on towball on new springs when hooking up caravan, might need airbags.
