  • Glad I Didnt Buy a Jeep

I'm glad I didn't end up with a Jeep...Yes they are cheaper and have more kit, but, the servicing is expensive, parts are few and far between, and they're American.
Further to this...a LOT of people aren't happy...

Seems a lot of fiat/Chrysler cars in there. But I don't really put much cop in Notthenewscorp.com journalism as being fair and balanced.

There's a fair few cars waiting to be recalled due to faulty airbags that traverse the brands at the moment.

So many in fact that the recalls.gov.au site has been down all day after people started frantically checking if their car is involved.

Apparently it will take years for the factory to manufacture new airbags to replace the entire lot.

Jeep Australia is price gouging customers on spare parts. As an example the oil filter for the 3.0 litre V6 TD engine (OM642) used in the previous generation Grand Cherokee and Commander CRD model costs $65 from a Jeep dealer. This is basically a rebadged Mercedes Benz oil filter, as that particular motor is a Mercedes Benz engine used in various Mercedes Benz saloon, SUV and Sprinter vans.

But the same part (without the Mopar sticker on it) purchased from a Merc dealership spare parts is a mere $15.

How does Jeep Australia specify a $50 price increase on a part that is not even made by themselves?

I don't mind Jeeps, but I think their parts pricing is beyond unreasonable, so I'm glad I didn't buy a Jeep either.

Not sure I would want the same factory making me air bags anymore...

I checked last night and for Toyota it seems to be Corolla, Yaris, Avensis, Rav 4. No mention of the prado.

Glad I didn't buy a Prado. Look at all the problems they have!

You can also find similar complaints about the LC200, but that's also widely acclaimed as the ultimate in four wheel driving.

I own both a Prado and a Jeep, and i love both. The Prado is great off road, and the Jeep is brilliant on road.

I've had some minor problems with my Prado, but overall i'd say it's a great car. I've had some issues with Toyota servicing an no longer take it to Toyota for servicing.

My wife has had some minor problems with her Jeep GC SRT8, but overall it's a great car. We've had some problems with Jeep servicing, and no longer take it to Jeep for servicing.

It doesn't matter what brand car you buy, there will always be lemons. Everyone loves to hate on Jeep and say they're all rubbish because some of them are duds, but i think a lot of the issues come back to dealer support (or lack thereof).

I agree with r4ndll. You cannot trust what you read in the media or hear in the news. They're not interested in reporting ALL of the facts. Their agenda is to stir controversy, fear-monger, and create unnecessary drama by sensationalising and selectively reporting the facts. Which Daily Telegraph headline is more interesting? "Jeep the Sequel: More reader complaints as a Fiat owner joins the chorus" or "Most Jeeps work fine, but some have problems."

                    Mike.

I know plenty of people with Jeeps, and they swear by them. I was once recovered from a slippery situation by one. It just seems that when they go wrong, they go wrong in a rather frightening way.
I will admit, they have some pretty good kit in them for the price (The Grand Cherokees).
