  • A small laugh... at my expense!

Thought I'd share something funny that happened to me today. Picked up my new Prado on Thursday arvo and I'm slowly swapping over stuff from my Rodeo that I traded. Anywho.... I havent had time bolt in the fire extinguisher and just put it under the drivers seat. Came around a corner this morning and suddenly the cabin filled with what I thought was white smoke! Yes.... the pin broke on the extinguisher and turned my freshly detailed new car into a mess of fine white dry powder!

You may laugh at me now!

OOps. You will need to find a great car detailer to get the powder out of all the nooks and crannies or you will be finding it for years ops:

Re: A small laugh... at my expense!

Dont want to make this sound worse than it already is, but the powder is also quite corrosive. Dont be surprised if you will need to replace some electronics down the track.

We had a work truck broken into, the only visible damage was the smashed drivers window, but the insurance company rote it off becouse they also let off a 4.5kg powder extinguisher into the cab. I have also had one go off in the back of a work ute, my tool boxes had surface rust within a week.

Sadly I have too seen this. Had most of the interior of one of my little project cars replaced under insurance because a dumb arse panel beater let one of his apprentices set of the on board fire-bomb whilst pressing buttons.... Even though it was locked out already

Some are not corrosive but most are sadly.. It would pay to check with the manufacturer and some fire guys and possibly consult your insurance company to let them know.

Sorry to say but it is right. If it was the powder, this is really corrosive. In Europe for a few years now theives are using this when they break into cars. After they take what they need, they let off a powder fire extingisher as it actually etches everything to remove any trace of fingerprints. Insurance companies are having to write off cars for this as it gets into every electrical fitting inside the car. Slowly everything gets a bad connection, like dying of a million cuts.

@#$%! This is the opposite of funny now. I cant believe I may have @#$%ed my car after 2 days! anyone know a thorough detailer in South Sydney?

Hopefully I have a bit of luck on my side as it only did a short burst and mostly in the rear right passenger seat.

                              Jez.
