  • MSA copy... not really surprised.

Was looking around at these dirty gear bags and noticed this quote on the MSA website.

If you have been enticed by Express Publications to take out a subscription to 4wd Action Magazine and be sent an MSA 4x4 product, please be aware this is not a Genuine MSA 4x4 item. This is a very cheap imitation made by the magazine itself.
I seem to recall it used to be advertised as an MSA bag... but now it's an EMG bag.

Shame a magazine of this size can't support the industry rather than ripping it's ideas off
    Cheers, Leon

I had been looking at a getting a subscription and the MSA dirty gear bag but then the offer stopped. Had a look at the images and it dosn't look as good. No way I'd take out a subscription if the quality of the gear has gone donw. I had heard from others about how good it used to be.

I too was looking at the subscription option... sort of glad I left it to late to arrive b4 the GTG.
Might just have to call into ARB tomorrow or the MSA factory on the Gold Coast and pick the quality one up

I got out my water bra that I got two years ago, never been out of the bag and it had MSA all over it, looked pretty good actually.

Sounds like sour MSA grapes to me. The original offer was for an actual MSA bag. The publisher must have got sick of the high prices MSA charge so they had their own made in China which is what they give away now. There's no reason for MSA to behave that way.

Have to agree with this as well, TJM and ARB stores also sell a copy of the MSA Dirty Gear Bag that is made by Bushranger (Bushranger is now owned by ARB), the MSA products are a great bit of gear but the prices are also up there with the best of them. I think you will also find now that the MSA ones are also made overseas, I asked this question at the Caravan and Camping show earlier this year and was told that all items are made OS unless stock runs short and they can make a quick batch here in WA.

I guess I feel a bit for these guys...

I now have 3 examples of how Express Publications are getting a bit up them selves...
The latest, I was talking to a manufacturer and he told me what they offered him for his product so they could give it away as part of a subs deal.
It was less than half the cost to manufacture the product and they thought that was a great deal for him... not them :?
                Cheers, Leon

Re: MSA copy... not really surprised.

Snaga please don't get me wrong, I fully agree with you that EMG should be supporting their advertisers (MSA have a 2 page full colour ad in this months issue) with these deals however MSA have gone off shore to produce their great product but have not passed the price savings on in any way. Just for the record I would prefer to have a MSA dirty gear bag hanging off the back of mine then the EMG one but I went for the Bushranger one purely on price and it seemed to be good quality to me.

Re: MSA copy... not really surprised.

It's a fact of life, if you come out with a good quality idea/product these days somebody will copy it. Just look at Bushranger(ARB) and their 'Diggar' shovel which is a poor copy of the 4x4equip combo shovel they have been making for years. Try and align the handle with the blade of the shovel on the Diggar and see what happens.
