  • Question re selling my Prado via this forum.

    Hello forum members.
On January 28th I sent the email below to an admin member on this forum and have not heard back. I need clarification of the "Sales Rules" regarding what I have to "post" and how often, to allow me to sell a Prado on this forum, which I would like to attempt to do.

Here is the email of 28th January : I am not familiar with forums, so apologies if I'm in the wrong section !!!

    Hi Admin.
I notice the dates on the updated forum rules and regulations are all quite old.
I also noticed that I have to have contributed many times over a longish period to allow me to be able to sell a car on the forum.
Just wondered the following: are the rules up to date as of January 2020, and is there therefore any way I can offer my old Prado to the Pradopoint members?
I am not overly familiar with forums, and don't want to overstep the rules.
I have a 1998 Prado with only 154000 klms on it, and want to sell it.
Is there a way I can do this here or not?
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards
    .JM............

According to the rules you have to be a member for 3 months & posted messages no less than 15 times. I guess it just stops heaps of people only joining up to sell stuff and no more. These rules have been upheld in recent months so are still current.
Is your car listed on Carsales? A 90 series with kms that low will sell fairly quickly on there I’d imagine. Only if you can’t wait 3 months to sell it on here of course.

Terrific thanks for the info Brett1979. Makes sense too. No I haven't put the car up for sale anywhere yet. Would rather it went to good use than as a trade in, hence my query on this forum. Could I get an idea of its value on this forum, as distinct from actually posting it "For Sale"?

I just had a look on my Carsales app. As a guide there’s a 1999 GXL with 161,000km going for $12,000. And another 1999 model with 189,000km for $11,500.

Thanks Brett1979. I'll check out the app. Any clues/tips on how best to sell my Prado on this forum? Do I sell it "as is" or put some money into it? EG I need to buy new tyres. My dilemna would be do I renew tyres, only to sell to an enthusiast on this forum who then needs to replace with a different type of tyre suited to his/her needs. Cheers.

Where do you live? Assuming everything’s in pretty good nick and the car appears to have been looked after, new tyres would be a must if yours are 1/2 worn & you want to sell the car reasonably quickly. Stay away from name brand tyres as they’re too dear, especially when you’re just wanting to sell the car. Bloody money pit name brand tyres are. All-terrain tyres from EBay would be the go as they’ll cover most tastes & tyres sold on eBay are almost half the price of their name brand cousins. So many different types on offer. Just search your tyre & rim size & tyre type such as 265/70 R16 all terrain. I’ve exclusively bought mud terrain tyres from eBay for my last few sets now for 90 series & 120 series Prado. Up to $200 a tyre for Brisbane region. $150 & up for Sydney. Depending on where you live will determine whether you can collect or need them delivered. Some tyre fitting shops list tyres on eBay for cheap. If you buy from a distributor then book in with a tyre shop for them to fit & balance. I’ve never had one issue with eBay tyres in all kinds of terrain. I’ll only buy them now. I’m done with expensive name brand tyres.
What else on your car may need fixing or attention?

The rules are fairly self explanatory. Heaps used to join up and post meaningless single word or small sentence posts to try to comply. They also weren't allowed. Its pretty obvious when people don't participate.

Great info re tyres thanks Brett1979. Sorry I didn't find this forum years ago!! I live on the Sunshine Coast Qld. Very "tidy" car I'm told, so I'll just be servicing, tyres and no more. Cheers.
