    VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
    Taken off 2012 GTG

The Simpson could be very cut up especially with the traffic going to the races so .
Those people taking trailers you need to be self recoverable . Have own winch , maxtrax , be confident enough with reversing down sand dunes willing to drive your car hard if you had to , be fit enough to dig yourself out .

Even cars without trailers could get stuck but should be a simple recovery , quick reverse then try again .

In the minimum vehicle requirements we have set you will see that we have specified “suitable” recovery points.

ARB bullbar loops when used in conjunction with a bridle are considered suitable for most recoveries including snatching and winching, high tensile bolts with a minimum grade of 8.8 should be used on these as well.

Towbars are considered suitable for most recoveries including snatching and winching, The use of a recovery hitch is needed for winching, and is also advisable for snatching. If using the hitch pin to attach the snatch strap this must be a minimum of grade 10.9 metric or grade 8 imperial. The towball MUST NOT be used for recoveries under any circumstance.

Rated recovery hooks (10,000lb) securely attached to the vehicle chassis or on solid mounting points that are securely attached to the chassis using minimum grade 8.8 bolts or grade 5 if using imperial bolts; are considered suitable for most recoveries including snatching and winching, especially when used in conjunction with a bridal.

    These requirements are NON-NEGOTIABLE!

    SHOULD HAVE

    Snatch strap .
    Bridle .
Lt tyres . If you don't still ok .
Suspenion lift . ???? You can do it without but be prepared to touch.
    Fire extinguisher .
    First aid kit.
    Shovel.
    Sand flag.

Can any of the guys who have done this trip before suggest minimum mods to safely make the trip? My 150 still has factory rubber and suspension which from what I hear is a no-no. The simpson is on my bucket list though and to do birdsville races as well would be awesome so I'm just checking out the finances to see what I'd need to do in the mean time to be able to come along.

The races are on 6th - 7th sep we would probably leave mt dare on Sunday 1st or maybe the Saturday so we could get to birdsville Thursday at the latest Wednesday might be better . I probably would be leaving melbourne 28th August and plan to maybe have a look at lake eyre on the way up. After the races off to innaminka down the bore track to Cameron's corner Tibbooburra then off to broken hill then people could head home . If someone didn't want to go to Cameron's corner they could head straight down the birdsville track or the birdsville dev road.
The plan is to take it easy so it's good for the wife kids .
Lone gum tree on the Simpson ,Maybe a day off out in the Simpson.
                .
Open to any suggestions of what people may want to do .

                              Tiny

I did a Simmo crossing last July, my 150 does have a lift / better suspension BUT we had a bog standard 120 with us and a bog standard V8 Cruiser, both managed ok (but did get bogged a few times). It's amazing what just a 2 inch lift can give you (clearance wise)........but don't stress out, both vehicles got across, without damage...so def doable even in standard kit.

If you want any guidance just ask, or send me a PM.

                              Cheers
