My father , uncle will be staying in birdsville .
Mark and his son are staying in Birdsville .
I will be staying with the wife and daughter .
Tiny and his dad staying also .
Anthony my father would be glad to pour Geoff and yourself Drinks could get you all worked up for the boxing tent.
Now that would be funny .
Sounds good, Geoff is the kick boxer, karate kid that after a couple drinks I recon would be likely to have a go.
It would be very entertaining.
I'm a firm "undecided" on the whole Birdsville thing. I really don't want to miss the opportunity but not sure how much value my 7Yr old will get out of it. Mostly because i genuinely have little idea what it'll be like. I was hoping to play it by ear when we got there.

Mate see how you go . He certainly won't be the only kid in our group or in Birdsville . I have been to the races before and enjoyed it . From memory went to the races one day and that wasn't for to long . It wouldn't worry me if I didn't go to the races this time and just done over things for the few days we are there .Like you said just play it by ear .
Hey how much water are ppl taking?
How long do you think we will be between/ without water?
What about food?
What sorts of meals are you Planning on?
I'm curious about people's thoughts on this too. From what's been posted, it looks like we're about 6 days without drinking water between mt dare and birdsville but how easy will it be to fill up at either end? I was planning for 100 litres and figured I'd need about 60 for drinking, cooking and cleaning between the two of us. The other 40 would be for emergencies and/or the occasional shower.
For meals I'm planning mostly meat and veg type stuff, maybe pasta or spaghetti. Nothing spectacular. I don't think I'll be able to take too much more weight so the camp oven will probably miss the cut (probably wouldn't be able to carry much wood anyway).

Check your permit. I think wood fires have been banned on the Simpson. You might be able to have one ether side, but in the main dessert area is a no fire zone. Too many people taking too much wood

I did have - 2010 GXL D4D Auto, ARB bullbar, rails, sliders, winch, 40mm lift, Brown Davis bash plates and long range tank
So your meat, this is kept frozen? Or fridge?
Only got one fridge, it's full of drinks. What do you do?
Hey ####, yes I've got a new 60L ARB fridge I'll be taking. I've also got a vacuum sealer that I'll seal all the meat up with and then freeze it for a week or two before I go. If I line the bottom with that, it'll stay pretty cold most of the way and vacuum sealed, the meat should keep even at fridge temps for a few weeks. I'll have a couple of cans of soup just in case though.
That's what we wil be doing vac sealing everything but probably keep the fridge on freeze and maybe run a esky and just transfer what I want to eat that night over and some blocks . That will keep the esky cold with drinks and stuff .
This is mine spec if that helps
High visibility flag that when fitted to the front of the vehicle is between 3.4m and 4.2m from the ground and contains reflective material.
"Drive down that track really fast, if something gets in your way turn"
When I tried to read up on it there was no rule for the desert. They just recommended you had one, they weren't even required. Mine's 2.5m long and sits on the spare aerial mount on the bullbar so probably about 3.7 from the ground. Only cost $20 to make it.
What I'm thinking is, will orange blend in to the environment somewhat? Perhaps I will have green reflective......
Just a thought.
Hanging for the trip really..........
These flags are to avoid collisions at the tops of dunes, the sky is more likely the background than the desert as you are heading uphill, I would stick with Orange. It's really the first in the convoy that is most important, they should communicate with people going the opposite direction how many are in your convoy.

Maybe I can get the kids a multi pack of electrical tape and let them decorate the pole like a multi coloured candy cane. Then it won't blend in to anything.
