    • Hi guys.....
We tried to get the pass at ood before we crossed along the shortcut pedrika desert track (rough!!! Think twice).....we could not get it at dalhousie either.....we carried on without one.....

Water....no water crossings last fortnight at all.....lots of water in a lake behind big red and the cooper & damantina systems are full of water.

      and fish...

Its my belief that people towing have killed the track....on remote tracks within the simpson it is obvious if yiu are following a CT as it is dug up towards the top beyond doubt.....my only suggestion if you have someone towing in your group go in front of them....so you can snatch them over the top if it dries out a little...and get ahead of fresh scalloping....

      Hope this helps.....
Should start a thread on 2013 simpson desert tips and warnings from people who have crossed recently.

Do you & the others have the parks pass already? If so how long did it take in the mail?
Should I get it now? Or just leave it to MT dare?

Are you booked in to big4 at loxton? Just a site?
Do we need to book in there? Or just turn up ok?
Are you booked in anywhere else?
Please advise if I need to book in anywhere, if you know what I mean.

        Thankx.
Just turn up I have emailed the caravan parks, road houses no need to book that's what they tell me in emails anyway .

If we want the pass I think it takes two weeks, i think i will just leave it to pick up at Mount Dare.

        • You can get the passes everywhere, I picked up one at William Creek once.

                  Stuart
One of the recommendations most people make is that everything you take should serve more than one purpose. I've got a water bra but I reckon it's the sort of thing you only really need if you're going to be taking it off and putting it on regularly. From most people's reviews, it seems there's only 1 water crossing on the way in to birdsville which is pretty low and fairly rocky so you won't be able to cross it at too much speed anyway. Since i'll already have a tarp and race tape anyway, I figure I can make up a water bra if I find I need one. If you've got the room and no weight issues though, it can't hurt to chuck it in.

No worries. I'm not sure we'll make it as far as hay on that first night out of Sydney but if we do, he shouldn't be too hard to find. Tell him we'll be on Chanel 16 and ill put a shout out as we come through hay the next morning to see if he's around.

Cool, that's what I was thinking. I just wanted to do the same as you, didn't want to be the only one still needing a pass.
You know I don't care where we stay as long as we can all fit in together. 2 weeks not worth the risk now i Think. MT dare it is!

                                Hey Anders,

Just wanted to clarify the plan above. Are we planning to arrive in Birdsville on Thursday night 5th August so we get both full race days in birdsville, or are planning to come into birdsville on the 6th and only really get the 7th at the races? I'm assuming (and would prefer if its optional) the first.

The reason I'm asking is the tickets for each day at the races at $20 so $40 for the two days. If we'll be there for both days, I'm going to order the souvenir medallion for $60 which gets you both days entry, a souvenir medallion obviously, but also gets you in to the Friday night comedy and music show which I'd be keen to check out. I think there's supposed to be some other discounts and things with it too. Good value for those of us not taking kids if we'll be in birdsville for both race days, not so much if we're only rocking in Friday arvo. Supposedly there's a limited quantity though and they usually sell out before the races (ie, I can't just wing it and get them there).

Obviously unforeseen circumstances aside, was the intention to be in birdsville by Thursday night or by Friday night?
