Just wanted to clarify the plan above. Are we planning to arrive in Birdsville on Thursday night 5th August so we get both full race days in birdsville, or are planning to come into birdsville on the 6th and only really get the 7th at the races? I'm assuming (and would prefer if its optional) the first.

The reason I'm asking is the tickets for each day at the races at $20 so $40 for the two days. If we'll be there for both days, I'm going to order the souvenir medallion for $60 which gets you both days entry, a souvenir medallion obviously, but also gets you in to the Friday night comedy and music show which I'd be keen to check out. I think there's supposed to be some other discounts and things with it too. Good value for those of us not taking kids if we'll be in birdsville for both race days, not so much if we're only rocking in Friday arvo. Supposedly there's a limited quantity though and they usually sell out before the races (ie, I can't just wing it and get them there).

Obviously unforeseen circumstances aside, was the intention to be in birdsville by Thursday night or by Friday night?
    Hey Tiny .
If we are traveling good we should arrive thursday sometime so will get both days racing and we have heaps of time in the desert .
We might even try getting there wed if we made good time to Mount Dare .
Tiny we should be all together by Leigh Creek and we can all talk about the itinerary to Birdsville .

You'll definitely be able to get race track tickets on the day, just not sure about the medallions. The lady I emailed said they usually run out before the races start. If you're not interested in the Friday night show though, they don't seem to do much for you (they say the Friday night show is only open to medallion holders and even then it's first come first served - could be bollocks though). For the sake of an extra $20 though, I'll give them a try.

              • I also bought myself an ARB swag for the trip. Decided to ditch the tent and skinny little mattress for something more comfortable. I'll give it a try out one night this week.

Only 12 sleeps to go for me. Who's ready? I've still got a list of stuff to organise as long as my arm but I think I'll manage it.

You will like the ARB swag love mine but the misses wanted a tent for this.

I hope so. Considering there's none anywhere in south east Queensland at the moment though, if I decide I don't like it I can always sell it on and probably wouldn't lose much. I had to drive up to the Sunshine Coast and take the slightly damaged floor stock to even get one. My wife described it as sleeping in a canvas coffin. If I can get that out of my head, I'll probably be right.

We are in 2 swags as well. They look very comfortable those Arb ones.
We have some eBay specials, happy with the comfort & been set up in the backyard for 2 weeks in heaps of wind & rain.
Might have a few drips in it. Certainly not enough to worry about but, Will get some wax when I find time.
Not ready but working on it slowly, things take time don't they.
One thing for sure, will be ready by Monday the 26th in the arvo evening some time :-)
Ready or not we are out of here!

                      • To say I'm getting excited doesn't quite cover it
Car goes in for service / check over tomorrow. Have already done a heap of stuff but the list of stuff still to do is ridiculous. I have a vain hope that I'll be able to spend a night at Wilpena on the way to Leigh Creek if i get everything sorted out in time .. will see..

Have bought a Travelander Swagit double swag for me and the son. Have tried it out a few times already and love it - but boy - does it roll up big...

                        • Hi All,

My Prado is in for a Major service as well, including timing belt, ( being one early) new injectors, and also doing a cold start check for valve clearances.
                          Get it back next Tuesday.

Then I start packing, and filling water containers.
Satellite phone being picked up Wednesday Week, from my 4wd Club.
The Sat. Phone is for Emergency use Only.

Dads 79 Series cab chassis is packed, a little heavy, so some re-packing is needed, but otherwise we are organised.

I have rated Front Recovery points and a Sand flag available for sale, both not required.

                          • Hi All,

I will need a favour from the organisers, I need a Certificate of Appreciation or a Letter expressing our appreciation for the use of the Sat.Phone.
This will need to be made out to "The Jackaroo 4WD Club of Victoria"

I will provide details when someone PM's me or emails me.

                            • 1week to go

Been keeping a close eye on the vehicle, doing a little maintenance, mods & checks.
So yesti arvo I put it up on the hoist, for a final quick check over, & oil change, lube etc.
Well guess what I found?....... Some red cordial under the harmonic balancer
The timing..... Like I have not got enough to do in the last week before we gone or 3 weeks.
So, I spent an hour, tore it apart today to have a sniff
So some more love for this beast, got some parts delivered for it today, the rest in the morning.
                              Genuine water pump.
                              Genuine by-pass hose.
                              Genuine thermostat & seal.
                              Genuine cooling system cap.
Aftermarket cheaper Gates timing belt & tensioner - (tensioner is exact same as o.e, NTN)
Gates/repco offer much better warranty than Toyota & almost half the price.
                              Air - con idler pulley.
Top & bottom hoses - cheers to Mick!
Genuine coolant is always on the shelf.
Get it back together when I find some time here & there (I hope)

P.s it is a tiny leak, probably would ave gone on for years as it was, but I'm glad it made me do it, I can relax on any of that gear letting me down.
Well unless I have spare bolts: lol.......
