  • Madigan Line - 2019 Prado

    Hi All,

in June this year, a few of us did the French line from Birdsville to Mt Dare. We loved it so much, we are going to give the Madigan Line a go in 2022 around July.

The Prado used about 18 litres per 100klms.

I know have an alu-cabroof top tent and so a little heavier so will budget on 22 litres per 100 klms. From Mt Dare to Birdsville via the Madigan is just under 800 klms.

I’m thinking the 150 litres and one jerry can of 20 litres should well and truely cover my fuel needs.

has anyone done the Madigan who can share their fuel usage or thoughts?

2016 2.8 diesel. Averaged less than 14l/100 km from Birdsville to Birdsville via Poeppels, K1, Rig RD, Colsen Track, Madigan Line, Hay River both up and down. A Navara and 2 Amoroks were similar. 16 psi HOT and high range 1st gear. No need for low range. Just keep it plugging away at 1600-1800 rpm. This is right in the maximum torque range and it will pick up revs quickly if a bit more momentum is needed.
