  • Wanted: Hard Tyre Cover for 95 Series

    G'day Folks,

I managed to acquire a very tidy 95 series three weeks ago and found Paradopoint on the net. Good forum with great discussions / answers.
My Parado came with a tatty vinyl spare wheel cover so I thought I would replace it with a hard cover.
It turns out that it isn't as easiy as it sounds. My tyres are 245/75/16s which seem to be relitively uncommon when searching for hard wheel covers.
Any suggestions of suppliers would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you but do you really need one?

Unless you are just a city driver and want it to look pretty, I'd suggest it'll be more of a hindrance than anything.
I assume you are running road tyres with that size. If/when you upgrade your tyres to off road types, the cover won't fit anyway.
If you want to hang anything from the tyre such as rubbish bags, high lift jacks, shovels etc then the cover will be in the way.

    Just my 5 cents worth...

      Thanks Malcom,

A 5c comment is better than none and I apprecieate you making the effort to respond.
City driver, that hurts:-) I guess I am for the most part but intend to get away when I can hence the reason for getting the vehicle in the first place (I'm more of a family tourer and camper as opposed to extreme 4WDer). I planned to have the cover on in town and take it off before going away, that way it looks good and is practicle. I don't intend to put any more weight on the back door in the form of jacks shovels etc. Tyres on the vehicle are Cooper Discoverer A/Ts.

Didn't mean to insult you but thats the reality for most 4x4 owners.
When I did my driver training course, out of some 10 vehicles, mine was the only one with non road tires. Actually, apart from UHF radios it was the only one with any 4x4 enhancements at all.

Anyway, would the wheel cover fit the Cooper AT's? Although I don't have a cover, my impression is that they are fairly snug on road tyres so unlikely to fit offroad wheels. Someone can correct me here.

I bought my car without the cover. I briefly looked around for one but after a month or so of fruitless searching I came to the realisation that I'd probably take it off once and leave it off as its too much hassle. Also decided that the car looks a whole lot more sexy with a big chunky tyre on the back anyway.
The tyre can also make a good bumper bar when reversing, the cover won't...

        Good luck with your search

          Snoopy22,

I purchased my vehicle new in 09 and requested a hard wheel cover. Had it on until this year when I upgraded to 70's (265/70/17). Being a slightly larger tyre I cannot use the hard cover and to tell you the truth I wouldn't put it back on. I agree with Malcom it is more of a hindrance and one more thing to get damaged.

Even camping you may well get a rubbish bag and off the back wheel is a great place to hang the bag.

If you are still after one make an offer but I would happily forgo a sale and get the space back in the shed and advise you to not to fit one.

            Thanks Malcom & Hazza,

            I feel a trend developing:-)
Certainly good to hear the views of folks who have used them and I guess $300 could be better spent.

$300, Shit! Had no idea they were that much, glad I didn't find one.
That pays for most of a bash plate which is several thousand times more useful even if you aren't a rock basher.
Half of that will buy you a low coolant alarm which you should also have.
Wow, I have a million uses for that $300 and the wheel cover would be in the last 25 or so.

Seriously, your money is better spent on the health of your car.

Dr Malcom is spot on. Now where do I get me one of those low coolant alarms?

Snoopy, sorry to hijack the thread buts its all about spending your $300 before your wife does

I'm not affiliated with them but do have one, bought with a PradoPoint discount, just mention PradoPoint. Think it was $160 delivered after the discount.
I think its brilliant. Do tell him which model Prado you have (presume 90) as there are different adapters for the radiator hose.
The hose on the passenger side to is the one I chopped. The adapter is a bit of a bugger to get in place as its such a short hose so it becomes rather inflexible.
Single wire from teh adaptor to somewhere in inside the car. glued mine inside the dash board as it has a warning sounder with a flashing LED which I mounted into the dash.
Cars in having CV boots replaced at present so can't take pics but will do so later in the week if reqd?

                    G'day Folks,

I've gone beyond the wheel cover, it wasn't a show stopper so to speak.
I have to agree with Malcom's comment re spending before the wife does.
Next item on the list is a fridge slide similar pricing to the wheel coiver and a lot more practicle..
