  • ARB Bar and Factory Front Parking Sensors

Just wondering if anyone knows where I could find or could post some close up photo's of an altitude/vx/kakadu with factory front parking sensors and an ARB deluxe bar installed, particularly a close up of one of the sensors?

I got half way through installing the factory sensor kit on my GXL today and when putting the sensors in the ARB "kakadu" bar (ARB stuffed up my order and forgot to tell me they ordered a bar with sensor holes!) there is a bit of a gap around the top of the sensor which is visible. It's not a major problem and I don't think the sensors will fall out, I would just like to know if all the ARB bars with parking sensors are like this or do I need to obtain a different bezel for the sensor?

I believe there is a different bezel?

There is a couple in the bullbar photos thread,
      Here's one

This one from page 4 has a few photos

And beware aftermarket sensors are not the same size as toyota ones, I have had both aftermarket & now toyota sensors on my gxl. The aftermarket ones I had were smaller than toyota ones.

If the sensors that you have do not have a matching switch to the rear park sensors.... They are not toyota oe

My dealer put aftermarket in without telling me, so they could deliver the car on the agreed date. As the sensor size was smaller they were not goin to fit the arb bar I ordered. So they changed to toyota sensors, what a major pain... If only they were honest to begin with.

After having a look at the photos it would appear that something is different with my sensors although they are a toyota branded kit in a toyota box with the matching switch.

Pete, Any chance you could see if your sensors have a part number on them?

No worries will have a look when I get home, hopefully the part number will be on the install manual that they came with.

Are yours coloured or silver style to suit an alloy bar? The coloured ones are made for install into original plastic bumper. I would assume that arb design the size of the holes to suit these. As they just relocate from bumper to arb bar

The grey/silver ones are to suit the toyota alloy bar, is it possible they are slightly different size? Try and find a picture of vx/kakadu with toyota alloy bar

Did also see one kakadu with black sensors, but I think they must have just relocated them.

They are the colour coded ones that would usually be installed in a bumper, not the bullbar specific kit. I assumed they would be the same size but apparently not.

They should fit, arb penrith has a kakadu with the same sensors as mine relocated to the bullbar no problem

Just a thought, the front sensors(non alloy bar) have a angled plastic bezel/bubble to take into account the angle of plastic front bumper. The rear sensors are flat & probably slightly smaller because of this.

Have they given you rear sensors by accident???

Strike that, just measured them, even tho the front ones are angled they are about the same size. About 24 mm for front & back

My kit no PZQ98-6001202 (ebony) last three numbers should be same as your car colour code. Let me know the colour & I will post to confirm. Part no for bullbar ones (ie toyota alloy bar) PZQ98-6002UP1

Specifies 22mm hole to be drilled in bumper. Specifies bezel provided for "bullbar kit" only.

The kit toyota sold you should have had a installation & owners manual. Also you could Ring arb & ask if they normally supply a bezel when relocating stock sensors.

I have the box in front of me now, part no is PZQ98-60080-040 (Glacier white), which is different to your pn (not including the colour code). My kit is Toyota branded with the install and owners manuals and templates, specifically states Front Park Assist also specifies 22mm hole and that the bezel is only provided in the bullbar kit, the sensors have the angled down bit on the top of the bezel. I have looked at lots of pictures online, including the ARB show Prado and none of them have the gap above the bezel, so there is clearly something different with my sensors/kit.

I had a look at toyodiy and the sensors shown in there are a completely different shape behind the bumper, so I am not sure if the sensors have changed somewhere along the line. Mine are long and tubular shape with a wire out the end but the toyodiy ones look like the back bit is square. I will post some photo's to show the sensors and the gap when I pull the car out.

I sent an email to ARB last night asking if they do anything different to install them, just waiting for a reply.

Just had a reply from ARB. They said I need to source sensors from a VX/Kakadu as they are different (obviously).

Pete, would you be able to take a photo of the back of your sensors and the plug, I now need to work out if just plugging the VX/Kakadu sensors into the GXL wiring loom will work before spending more money on the sensors.

In a GXL with the sensors do you get a display or just switch the switch on and it beeps at you? I assume the factory fit is a different graphic which includes front sensors?

I queried this with the local dealer and this is the response for PZQ98-60080-040

The information notes state “For Vehicles Not fitted with Genuine Bull Bar”.

They do list a 4 head park assist kit for “genuine bullbars” Part No. PZQ986002UP1 which come in a grey color only.

Here is a PDF of the kit from my friendly dealer.
                          https://www.box.com/shared/5d7u8c82phycxyrayl1p

The bezel that is the one needed has part number PZQ2960440MI and is shown in the PDF. It looks angled. Dealer tells me that it measures 31.2mm. Does this match up with the holes in your bullbar? The PDF also shows that the sensor for the bullbar kit has a different part number PZQ9860010IS. Which probably means that the bezel may not fit your existing sensors.

My install manual lists PZQ98-6001040 glacier white (August 2009 production on)- I think this is the one you want

                            - I think this might be your problem

In the gxl the toyota sensors only beep, no indication on the rear park sensor display. The vx/kakadu has optitron display so is different.

Also the front sensors don't stop beeping when you select park, something I plan to fix by having a small relay turn the front sensors off when the handbrake is applied.

I hope the ones I have will fit arb bullbar, I wasn't aware of any difference between gxl option sensors & kakadu original sensors. I guess I'll find out on Thursday when my bull bar goes on. The sensors on the arb kakadu looked identical to mine

The only difference with the Toyota kit is whether a Prado has a bullbar or not. It then depends on ARB as to whether they drilled the holes in their bullbar to accommodate the sensors from a bumper or a bullbar. One would hope that ARB would drill a hole to suit sensors from a bumper and if required, make the hole bigger for others swapping out from a genuine alloy bar to an ARB bar.
