The rear shocks can be a bugger to undo, best to get under it now and give the top of the shock mount a good clean and then cover it with wd40 or CRC.
The front springs are under an extreme amount of pressure, and can be very dangerous if care is not taken, you will need a very good set of spring compressors (do not even think about the cheap ones, unless you want to die or kill someone), however when you work in the cost of the good set of spring compressors, it may work out to be cheaper to get someone else to install the kit for you.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Something like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170632306523?hlp=false
As it traps the whole unit in it, so the unit doesn't turn into a missile if something was to break.
I have seen many claw type spring compressors bend and snap (at the claw).Last edited by croozza; 16-05-2011, 10:09 AM.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

From my experience with exactly what you are talking about the nut on the top of the rear shocks could only be undone with a ring spanner with a ratchet mechanism and a deep bend on the handle of the spanner. Was a right pain. Not enough space for a socket and too tight an angle for a normal spanner.
Front end is a different animal and am thinking twice about using the $50 spring compressors from repco ... or now a.k.a death trap.. it did make worry a bit when using them, there was some serious force involved but they said lifetime warranty so thought they were of decent quality.. not worth much after it has taken ya head off but.

Hi all!
I've sussed out a clunk in the back end the other day. Its the top stud of the rear shocks, the bushes/rubbers have blown out.
Reading the above it seems the only way to undo them is from under the car not thru the inside of the cab??? Have been searching for a thread I thought gave a detailed description of removing the shocks even the spanner size??
Can anybody help
Does anyone know of the thread??
Will it be best to jack the car up?? Enough room to work if not.
Would you jack it up on the chassis or diff?? (obviously stands in place once up).
And any other helpful info!!
