Hey All,
Has anyone had an issue with the door lock/open sensors on the 120 prado? Apologies this is a bit of a rant but I am rather annoyed with Le Mans Toyota as explained below...
With my two rear doors, if you unlock the car and open the door, the light doesn't come on. Further, if you dont open the door after 30sec (or whatever it is), the car locks itself as it thinks you haven't opened a door. Anyway, the issue has been around for a while and sometimes I forget about it because I open another door to put things in the car etc.
The problem is though if I open the rear door to put my daughter in her seat, and it takes longer than normal the doors may lock. Then sometimes you put the keys down (not ideally) in the car... and of course I'm worried that I will lock our daughter in the car with the keys inside! Not exactly very safe, which is why I now always open a front door and try not to put the keys down in the car. But mistakes happen.
Anyway, I took it to Le Mans Toyota in Footscray (Melbourne, where we bought it) to get it serviced, and I asked them to check it and they said they reset the central locking and it was all good. But of course, it wasn't and the problem was still there. Pretty sure they never even looked at it.
So after a few months as I had no time, I eventually get my wife to take it back. I called them and told them they already looked at it and said they fixed it, but they didn't, so can they please take another look.
Anyway, my wife tells them the same when she drops it off. This is the only reason we drop it off there, no service, just look at the door sensors.... Anyway, when my wife picks it up they say. "No that's actually a standard safety feature, it's supposed to do that." When she argues and explains how stupid that is, and unsafe they say, "well who ever did your battery wiring must have broken a wire or something". So they completely contradict themselves. They don't even try and fix it. I did the wiring and I am sure I didn't break any wires or stuff anything up.
So when she brings the car home, I get out the voltmeter and low and behold both sensors have power to them. Simple check, wires are ok, power is on. Next check is the switch. So I remove the sensor switch and swap it with a front door sensor switch. Lock the car, open the door, bing the light comes on. Doors don't lock! Amazing. Check the front door (with the rear door sensor) and the doors lock themselves...
It took me all of less than 5min to figure out what the problem was and fix it. All I need now is two new switches.
Now I don't think I will ever take the car back to Le Mans Footscray. Can't believe how useless they are.
Has anyone else had problems dealing with them? My car is on a lease so are there any places that are half decent that I can take it to get it serviced in Melbourne??????
Ok. my rant is over....
Cheers
Phil
