  • Toyota Service Manual Website - Issues with quality of info downloaded from website Grrrrr!

On the weekend I subscribed to the website for one day ($16.50) just to see what information it contained that would be relevant to my Prado GXL 150. It was not a great experience.

For some reason I could downloaded general info about specifications on a range of topics but it was no-go when it came to downloading specific information such as wiring diagrams and topics about working on the engine etc. For me the download speed is horribly slow so I found much of my time was taken staring a blank screen. (I used a near new laptop with Windows 10 so my setup is not to blame - nor is the modem I used which runs at normal broadband speed.)

I feel like I have been ripped off. If you are a user, what has your experience?

Agree, I tried to use it and found it to be rubbish, I also tried their support contacts,
    no response!

The model information shows it to include the 2.8Ltr Prado, it doesn't!

Wouldn't recommend that anyone use it.

      Thanks LieghW.

But what other options do owners of late model 150 have? This is the first vehicle I have owned where I do not have a service/repair manual. Sod it!!!

I heard these disks only cover general info and generally restricted to early 150 models. There must be a lot of Prado 2013-2015 owners driving around without service manuals.

Perhaps it is now the norm to book into a service centre to have work done what with extended warranties as they are.

Sorry, yes later models you will have to wait for the new manuals to become available.

I thought there was some consumer legislation that prevented a monopoly on service information..ie to prevent consumers being forced to have to go to only the one provider...anyway...how can a non toyota dealership mechanic access legitimate service and repair service manuals?
the last time I looked you could not even get an "aftermarket" service manual for the previous 150 Prado, let alone the new 2.8GD Prado.

                    Ok,

After investigation, I read the minimum system requirements which are:

Computer and Processor: Intel ® MMX Pentium ® 266-Mhz or Faster
                    (Intel® Pentium® III 1.2-Ghz or faster recommended)
Memory 128MB of RAM or greater
(256MB of RAM or greater recommended)
                    Display 1024 x 768
                    Operating System Microsoft® Windows® 98 - Windows 7.
Please note: Windows 8 is not compatible at present.
                    Browser Windows® 7, Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6 - 8
Please note: IE 9, 10 and 11 are not compatible.
                    Other Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® 6.0 of later required.
                    Adobe® SVG Viewer is required.
Now if your running windows 7 and IE 6-8, it probably works fine!

One would think they would be upto date but alas no. On my second try using IE 11 in
compatibility mode I did manage to get the info I required, and it does cover upto the 2.8
                    Prado.

From memory there was a case in the US where a manufacturer was taken to court for
refusing to sell service manuals, the courts deemed they had to make service data available
                    to third party repairs etc.

Toyota has just found a more lucrative method to screw more money out of you, maybe
if your going to update your vehicle try and get a lifetime access subscription to the service
manuals as part of the deal.

I had heaps of trouble accessing it because of the old browser requirements - I had to fire up an old laptop.

If people are a bit IT savvy they may find this site helpful:
                        https://dev.windows.com/en-us/micros...s/vms/windows/

You can download "virtual machines" for older versions (eg IE6 on Win 7) that "play" on your newer PC. If you're feeling nostalgic you can even go back to the good old days of IE6 on Win XP

This came up on another thread post recently, I have got the GSIC manual running on Windows 10 new internet browser, Edge.

                          1. Open up Edge (normal Internet browser on Win 10)

                          2. Go to the website (or file) where the GSIC/similar manual is located.

                          3. In the top right corner where the three dots are ... (More Options) Click

                          4. Go down the menu and select "Open with Internet Explorer"

                          5. Once it opens in Internet Explorer, enter Developer Mode by either pressing the F12 key or,
in the top right of the window, click on the small gear, and select "F12 Developer Tools"

                          6. The bottom half of the screen should pop up with a black bar and some settings etc that look like another language to most people.
Click on the drop down arrow and choose another version of Internet Explorer so it works. I have got it to work on version 5.

                          7. Voila... you should have some sort of manual now working on the newer Internet browsers.

Note: Using F12, developer mode (step 5 onwards) should work in Windows 7, 8etc and older Internet Explorers.

This system does help with the subscription site, and probably any other online/eBay manuals. Hope that helps some out there!
