its 1.30am and ican't get an ugly image out of my head. for those who might have seen the sunday news on 7 and 9 you may have seen a story of 5 asian men in a boat were rescued near cronulla . i witnessed them get smashed by a rogue 12ft wave the top 5-6 ft was white water. i was watching them wary that this might happen, but then it did. not a good image for me as im a boat nut and a fisherman and i know this reef well and have nearly been flipped by it . these blokes were very lucky . they were far enough away from land not to be seen by anyone except for the 2 of us that saw it happen . if they had life jackets they were unable to get to them . they clung to the upturned boat for about 20 mins b4 help arrived which was just after the boat sank . they were only in the water for about 30 mins total but were suffering mild hypothermia. i doubt any of them could swim . these guys were out in massive seas to catch a feed and not one of them noticed the grim reaper doing laps around their boat as they headed towards a massive line of 12ft breaking waves . i can't get rid of the image of this boat just disappearing in that wave . and the feeling of helplessnes as you watch and hope the chopper gets there before these idiots drown .
