I decided the constant rubbish fuel economy of the truck needed looking at. My car is far from stock. The additions in weight and drag are not helping my wallet much. The awnings and the rack are the main culprits, but the weight of the steel bar, twin batteries and the winch add up to rough numbers at the bowser.

I have been running 95RON BP fuel for the last 12 months and that has helped. Recently I swapped out the automatic gearbox valve body which has resulted in a firmer, more predictable gear change pattern and better fuel use. Enquiries at my local Toyota resulted ina quote of $358 per fuel injector and $94 for a new fuel filter assembly. After six years of work I knew the fuel injectors needed cleaning or changing. With very little opportunity (is: I live in the country) to get them removed and cleaned, a complete change was my only option.

Toyota can bugger off at the price they quoted. I grabbed a complete set of denso (re: they make injectors for Toyota) injectors for $145 from a China wholesaler. I bought a genuine fuel filter from the dealership. Changing the injectors was easy. Just need a 10mm socket, 12mm socket, ratchet, a couple of extension, a 8mm hex wrench and a small flat blade screwdriver.

Remove the airbox and air filter assembly. Unbolt the inlet manifold and throttlebody. Remove the fuel rail hold down bolts, remove the injectors and rubber insulators, make sure you pluck out the injector top seals from the fuel rail as they often don't come out with the injector.

Give everything a good clean and reassemble. The car goes heaps better now and is very responsive. Hopefully the economy will get better now
