I woke up Sunday morning and decided to (finally) get out on the tracks. As I was by myself I wasn't going to do anything too eccentric so I ventured into the Anglesea Heath area behind Anglesea and Airey's Inlet. Initially I planned to spend most of the day searching for (and with some luck, photographing) some of the rarer birds that had been reported in the area recently but the hot, windy weather made birding a dud so I reacquainted myself with more of the tracks. It felt good to engage low range and lower the tyre pressures for the first time in the GX.

Route taken:
Start on Great Ocean Road travelling towards Anglesea from Torquay
TR Forest Road (north of Anglesea)
TL Gum Flats Road
TL Allardyce Track
TR Alcoa Boundary Track

End Deans Marsh - Lorne Road

Allardyce Track

Many of these tracks are impassable in the wet and are closed in winter and spring but they were bone dry so the biggest problems were a few areas with soft sand, bumps and ruts but these were easily overcome by taking it easy and careful wheel placement in the few tricky parts.

Allardyce Track

Alcoa Boundary Track (overlooking Anglesea Coalmine)

Red River Track

So, no great challenges but a great day in amongst some wonderful scenery.

Big Hill Track

Wildlife highlight for the day was not a bird but a highly active Tiger Snake on Gum Flats Road
