  • Rear Cargo Draws? Best Setup

    Afternoon Gents,
Nearly done with my dual battery set up (will post pics when done) which means i am now looking at options to secure the Fridge (Waeco CF50) in the rear cargo area. I want to put in some sort of draw system but wanted to gain everyones feedback on best setup/ solution. I am thinking i will put in one draw with a Fridge slide next to it. The reason for this is so the Fridge is not too high when installed and the missus is reaching to get me a froffy!
I am hoping you guys can advice on best system to purchase or if anyone has some good DIY advice. Happy to pursue either option. Preferable wanting to avoid drilling any holes.

    Thanks as always guys,

      Timmay,

I have secured my fridge by installing a false wooden floor and installing T-Nuts in the wood wherever I want to secure something. The wood itself is held in place by bolts that screw into the 4 orinigal tie-down points. This way there was no drilling into the car and it can easily be returned to standard. I plan to eventually build a draw beside the fridge which again will be held in place with T-Nuts.
If you want some pics let me know and I'll organise when home. I'm currently at work and the IT nazi has photobucket blocked.

I was thinking about seeing if it is possible to actually fit a fridge inside one of the drawers. So in effect the top deck would have a removable section over that drawer. That way when the fridge is not being used the drawer is handy extra space. I imagine it would have to be a custom job but should be pretty easy. What do you think?

This is going to be a good thread. I'm thinking of the same stuff myself now. Pics will be important! I went down to Caddy storage today and while they only really have two basic designs (flat top, one drawer or two) they are light, sturdy, reasonably priced and provide plenty of scope for customisation. I'd rather buy the foundation and then create what suits me from there.

I have Black Widow drawers. They arent cheap but you get what you pay for.. They are fantastic and are no drill. They can easily be moved from vehicle to wehicle if you change in the future by just getting new side wings that match the new car.

                  G'Day,

I have a Off Road Systems in my 90 series and as xvprado says they are a top unit and Graham just can't help you enough. We are swapping ours into the 120 series whenever it may arrive. We paid the extra and had it made from aluminium, I believe that there is a good weight saving in this alone, how much, not sure though. Our system has the fridge and slide on the left hand side on the cargo level and 3 drawers on the right side, 2 are deep 1 is shallow and the top of fridge is covered over at the height of the drawers.
If you want some photos I will be home in about two and a half weeks and can post some then if it helps at all.

                  Regards,

Big Fella, That set up is 21kgs lighter than the Gal model of th same shape. I was also looking into this and the guy has given me a PDF file which sets out all the options for the 120 including pics. If anyone can tell me how you post a PDF file on this site, let me know & I'll post it; they look really good. (I've got Photobucket if thats any use)

Check out Embi's Black Widow setup:

                        http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=138

Looks stunning - Black Widow are certainly exxy but make top quality gear.

If I didn't need my back row of seats, it would be exactly what I'd be getting fitted, together with some extra cargo barrier upper dividers.

                          Hello All,

Talking on the subject I have a 2 x draw side by side Off Road Systems with a piranah fridge slide to suit a 90 series Prado that I am interested in selling. As mentioned Offr Road Sytems can easily modify to suit the 120 serious if anyone is interested just let me now as I have not advertised it as yet. The Draws are in excellent condition.

                          Regards,

There is no such thing as a best storage system . But you should be able to find/build a storage system which best suits your needs. This is where the biggest problem lies for most people - to work out what futures you want/how are you going to use it, etc...

The link below shows my setup, which is excellent for touring...

                              Timmay,

I've got the Dept of Interior setup. I have the one with fridge slide on the right hand, door side. Drawers fit heaps in and once you fit them all up it takes only about 1/2 to fit/remove if you want. I take mine out when it's on kid duty and re-fit for holidays/touring. Drawer runners and locks are great, no rattle. I bought mine after travelling with a friend who had their set up in a Patrol.

My only complaint would be the weight as it's all plywood. When I go to upgrade the Prado, next time I think I'll go the extra for the Outback 4wd interiors set up. When I considered them against the Dept of Int they were $5-600 dearer and had the old sliding bolt locks, much different to what they have today with the locking handle etc. Dept of Int are more than compatible otherwise.

As LC120 said there is no perfect system, just one that does what you want and is set up for what you need for what you can/are prepared to afford.

                              AJ
