The lid can open & close (access internally to coolbox/centre console) and also has a latch where it slides back and forth to adjust for elbow position (I think thats what it's for). The little SOB was resting his feet against the top of the centre console lid and has broken the slide back and forth latch/lock. Now the centre console slides back or forth when braking and accelerating. I normally wear a neck brace when my wife is driving so the bloody lid whips back and forth like a dunny door in a typhoon when shes at the helm. Its just freaken annoying. If you have any ideas on fixing the kid or the lid it would be appreciated...

I would think that just putting a screw through from the inside to lock the sliding mechanism in one place would be the easiest and cheapest fix, otherwise you might be up for a new lid.

Got a quote from toyota to replace the locking mechanism...~$400!!! I found one in SA (located in VIC) but I have to buy the whole centre console for $168. AJ120 is on the money...Screw it and be done with it. It's a usesless feature on the centre console lid anyhow. I personally never used it, neither did the missus.

10 cents for the screw, 25 minutes trying to remember where I put the cordless drill and 30 seconds to fix
I agree it is a useless feature, I reckon my first Prado was a couple of years old before I even realised it moved, and I still don't know why you would want to.

Where abouts exactly did you screw into the lid?
Can you possibly take a pic?
