Great writeup guys, I have just ordered my winch bar and snorkel. I should have the vehicle by the end of the month and shortly after bar and snorkel fitted. Unfortunately I don't have the time or the manpower to fit the bar myself but it has been great reading about it.

Good work and keep the picture posts coming

Out of curiosity what sort of price did people pay for their bar. I am forking out $1810 colour coded and fitted for mine.

Yeah we will have to do something about that soon hadn't we...

Bomber, i paid $1526 for the bar colour coded.

You can get it done with 2 people, thats all i had. Three is advantageous in getting it all lined up properly and would save a lot of hassles that we had.

        ARB Winch bar

Sorry to bring up an old topic but i have recently fitted an arb deluxe winch bar to my prado and i ended up with the exact same gap as strahan did with the side covers.
Was a solution ever found to this problem? I followed arb's instructions to the letter, not sure what the go is...

        Cheers Rhys

Just picked up my second hand 2007 Turbo Diesel with the ARB winch bar.
I had a look under the side plate area and have a gap of about 25 mm. There are bolt holes there but no bolts on either side. the bull bar wobbles a but when driving. It has the name of the shop who fitted the bar so I may take it back to them to check..

Are they supposed to have bottom bolts in that area?

The wobble is normal. Their should be a M8x25mm bolt in the bottom with a flat washer(The same that's in the rest of the washer bottle guard)

                  Re: ARB winch bar

took it to a Local ARB dealer whilst on holidays who took a look and said it has been mounted wrong. There should be NO 25 mm gap at the bottom of the side plate next to the tow ring and yes I am missing both bolts as well as side bolts. He suggested I contact the original installer who happens to be the local ARB dealer back home and see what he will do.. If he will do nothing then to contact ARB itself.

                  hope this helps others..

                    Re: ARB winch bar

Chris, there should be a gap of about 25mm between the top of the bar and the body. The reason for this is the bar is mounted directly to the chassis and moves with the chassis. The body is then mounted onto the chassis through rubber mounts and will move independant of the chassis which is why it "appears" that the bar is wobbling. The bar is not wobbling, it's the body moving. If you do not have the gap, and it can be closed up a lot closer, then the body will bash against the bar and cause damage to the front fender panels.

If this is NOT the gap you are talking about then maybe take a picture and post this up and we can all discuss that.

                        Re: ARB winch bar

Ok I understand which one you mean. The bracket is mounted too high and needs to be adjusted but the main bar needs to be removed first. Mine is sitting nice and tight with a bolt on either side locking them together.

Here is my freshly painted ARB deluxe winch bar. I have abit of polishing to do on the the steel under trays to remove some light marks from the bubble wrapping, but I am very happy with the paint job.
