might pay to weld in a coulpe of vertical tubes if you haven't alreadey done so.It will strengthen the frame and will stop the mesh from flexing if it was only attached around the outside of your frame

Good point Quicky - I was wondering if I should do something like that having looked at a few yesterday.

I noticed some cargo barriers have a horizontal bar at the middle for added strength.

Yes mate, after thinking about Quicky's comment some more I have decided to put a single bar across at mid height. So, here is Version 3 of the plan:

Got the Cargo Barrier frame pretty much complete now:

It bolts to the top of the drawers and I'm now working on the top brackets from the third row seat grab handles. Once those are done I will get the mesh.

Made up the top brackets to go from the third row seat grab handle points and welded mounting tabs onto the frame.

Now need to get the mesh to finish of the barrier.

Yes, but it's not much - $17.60 for the tube, $6.25 for the flat bar plus I had to buy a new roll of MIG wire at $30. The wire mesh is $38 but I haven't picked that up yet. Plus painting - TBC.

Looks great trekrider, good job so far... keep it up... Is the frame sitting straight up or is the top slanted to the rear to follow the middle row of seats?

What are the ADR req's if you DIY, have you looked into it?

Thanks, I made it so that it's vertical, sitting just behind the seats in their normal position - I'm not worried about reclining them any further. No idea on the ADRs but the way this is put together you could probably drive a tank over it without damage It's much stronger than the ones I've seen. Probably find you have to have a life hammer on the back of it - not that anyone would be able to sit behind it, but rules are rules

No worries Toddy, that's why I'm putting all the details in this thread - makes it easier for anyone else to find if they are keen to give it a go themselves

                            Hi Trekrider
just been looking at your cargo barrier, looks great by the way. just a question when you marked the angle to be cut, did you for the 20 deg angle, mark the cut line 10 deg to the left & 10 deg to the right or just 1 way?

                            Brett

Thanks Brett, on all the bends I marked half each way otherwise it would have been uneven when joined together as I'm guessing you have surmised by saying 10 deg each side for a 20 deg bend.

I still need to pick up the mesh - all I seem to be able to get is 25 x 25 where all the barriers I've seen are more like 40 x 20 plus I can only get a 1.2 m x 2 m sheet, so lots of wastage

i have also looked at the bought ones and are way to expensive so you have saved a bucket load to spend elsewhere. with the offcuts of mesh if they are big enough , an idea i will use is to create a cage that the engel will slide in to stop anything blocking the vents. i have 1 drawer (home made) and 40 ltr engel on a slide next to drawer.
