I have put below a couple of photo's of how our setup works. I couldn't get to the back of the fridge easily to show you where the foam is however if you have a look at a slide it will become obvious.
This one is with the fridge locked in the out position.

Scott, did you buy these draw's or make them.

Scott, are there any breathing holes for the fridge in that set-up? If not, do you find it gets hot?

Leon, the entire back of the fridge box is open to the cargo barrier but follows the contour of the barrier. This allows the fridge to breathe through the area while not allowing anything to fall in there and obstruct it. You are right in your thinking though, fridges need a lot of area to breathe.

I made these ones up. The frame is made from 12mm square tube and the timber on the outside ranges between 4mm where strenth is not needed to 12mm ply where it is. The idea of this was to keep it strong with the frame and thicker timber but also light as possible. It seems to work well for us.

FYI the Waeco seconds store is taking 10% off everything for the month of October 8) http://www.getawaeco.com.au/
Might have to get me a transit bag then

RRP says $299 on their web site, nut I'm sure I only paid $220 from Ranger Camping in Canning Vale. One of their 20% off store wide sales
Mounted it ontop of the draws with captive star crews from Bunnings and whalla, she's bueat! Only time it has rattled is going over harsh corrugations when it doesn't have the fridge on it!...

That is one of my concerns - keeping MDF dry.
In my last design (just a shelf with two support walls/sides) I had a 20 litre jerry of fuel & 20 l of water on one side, and the number of times those blasted lids leaked, causing the MDF to swell was a bit to frequent for my liking.
I will certainly be looking at Plywood dunno why I typed particle board ops:
Form plywood certainly seen it but as you mentioned its a bit heavy for my criteria.
"As Justo mentioned as long as the MDF stays dry it will be ok but good quality ply is definately better as it is stronger in all directions."
Using MDF in this application is fine especially since it's in the back of your car and I'm sure everyone on here would go out of their way to ensure that the car doesn't get submerged enough to induce water into the rear cargo area :? :P
Also, if you are carpeting your newly built set of draws then make sure you use a liberall amount of adhesive as this will also help to 'waterproof' the MDF to a degree.
Whilst watching Bathurst today I made this. Goal was to be light, removable and quick to pack. Still to be finished but good enough for our camping trip next weekend. This was just a test fit hence the fridge is the wrong way around. I was going to add a shelf above the space case but this prevents you getting it in and out with ease.
Nice work, nice and simple. I'm looking at making something with similar goals, but may use the rear seat brackets (especially the side ones) for locking it all down.

Thanks, my plan is to use the 2nd row seat rails in the floor and nylon webbing straps to hold it down.
