Don't drink and operate a Foxwing. I told SWMBO to do it and leave me to drink in peace.

I replaced my ARB with a Foxwing after my last Simpson Desert trip. It's easy to pull out and unroll a swag under.

        Hi All,

The Minister of Finance has stated that I can get one, but who supplies the Foxwing in Melbourne and does it come with the Rhino Bars or is that an extra cost item?

        Please Advise

You guys keep poking holes in my pocket... Picked up a ridge rider (SCA) awning. Build quality looks great so far and it's small when packed away. Extendable aluminium poles for the sides (with velcro straps). Happy with the build quality except for the guy ropes and tiny pegs that it came with. I'll be replacing these with sand pegs and some decent rope.

Problem is I only have two roof bars where as the awning came with 3 brackets... I wonder if two mounts will do the job.

I have the same size in an ARB awning and have only attached it with two brackets. Seems sturdy and never had a problem with it. I have spaced my roof bars as far apart as possible in the factory rails. I think there is a picture in my build up thread.

                    Cheers

Hi eatlovelearn, I paid $199... SCA special as per amts post (thanks Amts!). Thanks for the heads up

davidsford, thank you for confirming that. I was actually browsing Thules webpage to get a single bar... it seems they've replaced the aerobars with "wing bars"... The awning is pretty light as it is, I'm confident 2 brackets should do the job well. I'll check out your build thread. Ta!

Just had a play with the awning. It wont be a permanent fixture so I thought I'd have a crack at installing it myself... not an easy task! A 2 minute job with two people (and less risk of dropping the awning on the paintwork!).

As davidsford said, two bars secures it well and the fit is solid. Only a drive on a highway can test it though.

Also I retract my comment earlier about the thickness of the material. On closer inspection and direct comparison with a heavy duty oztrail tarp, the awning is much more lighter/thinner/flexible. The materials used are completely different.

Had a peek at one out of the box on the way home from work yesterday. The end frame does indeed have a sail track which would be good to attach a sheet down to the ground for instance. Your right about the awning being extremely light William. As it was still rolled up I couldn't get a good look at it to see how water proof it would be (standing out or sitting under it in a downpour?) But for the money, it certainly looks like a bargain... SWMBO however wants the Ironman Awning as it has the black cover which will not stand out so much against our black prado (why didn't I think of that?)

                            thanks william .
well i bought a ridge ryder awning today , going to throw it on tomorrow to see how it is .
just wondering if it has to be mounted straight up and down or can it have a slight angle ?
my roof rack has an angle in towards the top and i was going to mount it straight to that instead of using
the L brackets that came with it . will this cause an issue with the arms that fold out ?

Might be a problem. Worse to worse it just means the arms that fold out will be angled too. The angle isnt that great is it?

                                2.0 x 2.5 or 2.5 x 2.0?

Now that a number of members have the Awnings, which size would be the preferred? I notice that most pics I have seen are the 2.5 long (length of car) x 2.0 out (away from car) as opposed to the otherway around (2.0m long and 2.5m out) would any of you change? and for what reason. Although I too am swaying toward the norm of 2.5 x 2.0 (out), Having the extra 0.5 m out from the car also makes some sense... I'm not concerned about the awning being too long for my 2 bar sportz racks on the roof rails as the awning will not be a permanent fixture, rather it will be put on for outings etc... I invite your comments gentlemen (and ladies)

                                Regards
