  • Fitting Bonnet and Headlight Protectors

    Hi all

Just recieved my bonnet and headlight protectors today from the spare parts dept at a competing Toyo dealer from where I have my Prado ordered (long story).

Anyhow just looking at the kits you get, I can't make out how the mount's work for the protectors. Not having a Prado to look at in detail myself yet, I figure some here just might. Is anyone able to photograph the mounts where they attach so I can see how it's done?

Anyone who's attached theirs, is it difficult? Like is there something you really need to be careful of?

    Thanks for any info.

they just clip on by the look of it. put down the clear sticky tab to protect the paint and bend the metal clips in tight around it...

here's a pic from the top,

      and one from under

will probably need to remove the air ducts and front grill to put the centre ones in place

glad i took the effort to go get some pics now! looks a little rusty, could do with a cleanup me thinks!

and the headlight ones are very similar only chrome for some reason

Headlights are easy..........bonnet protector, you need to remove the front grill, took me a bit more than 5 minutes, but easy if you follow the instructions.

McBain: Thanks for the pics, they show it nicely. Exactly what I was after.

Yup, just looking at the instructions now and they do say to remove the grille.

Do you need to use pliers or something to make sure the clips get a decent hold? Seems they just push on. Although the instructions do say "fit the centre metal clips by sliding them in between the two metal skins in the grille area". And then expands on that with the further instructions "Open gap between metal skin"

Any idea what's being referred to with the "two metal skins"?

Yep - after you have the grill off, look at the location of the two centre holes of the platisic guard in terms of where abouts on the bonnet they line up - just at that area you will see that the bonnet has a two layered section and the clip fits nicely in between the two sections/layers of the bonnet.

            Hope that made sense?

            Cheers

                  Hola Pepe,

                  bienvenido a los pradopoint.

These are standard Optional Extras available from Toyota here in Australia. I would expect they would have them in Europe too, but otherwise no doubt they could be ordered online from Toyota Australia.

                      Thank you fishnut & McBain.

Fishnut, your Spanish looks great

I am looking for bonnet protector from long time ago, searching for the best online site to make the buy, but I like the McBain ones. I didn't found that model, usually are transparent or smoky.

I will keep looking for 8)

                        Hi Pepe

This is a link to the Australian Accessories Prado Access.

Not sure if you can buy online but you maybe able to take the photo to your dealer and ask if they can get them.

I just bought a pair of protectors as well but I am afraid to install these metal holders under the rubber seal of the lamps since the seals are glued to the edge. Do you think I can partly remove the seals and put the holders safely in place without compromising so called watertightness of the lamps? what do you think?

As far as I know .... its perfectly alright to pry up a tiny section of the rubber and slide the metal clip underneath it. That's what all the pre-delivery installed ones look like.

However, I have seen one dealer who installed them by putting the metal clips over the top of the rubber .... not only did the clip keep popping off but it chewed up the rubber seal.

                            Cheers

                              Thank you Waltec,

No, they don't sell online, I will send them an email asking.

Here in Spain NOBODY uses those protectors, nobody knows they exists
