  • Product Review - WAECO 110 Litre Fridge / freezer.

To put it simply - Absofriggenlutely Brilliantastic !!!

It's not often that a company makes a product that is such a perfect fit for your vehicle and your family - but Waeco has done it. We travel with one of the rear seats in - for the feral kid - so a set of drawers and fridge slide are not an option. This Waeco unit is a perfect fit - with a little space down the side for the 240 volt rectifier and enough room for the kids in the middle row of seat to still recline a little.

The height is ideal as the top of the fridge sits almost level with the window sills - just keeps it out of the way of thieving eyes.

It looks like a bit of a snug fit - but that suits me perfectly. Even bouncing around on Matthew's tracks in the Blue Mountains it never moved.

I've reversed the door so it opens this way - and the controls and motor are at the back. I like to be able to check the temp etc - at a glance - from the back window and I prefer the motor's fans to face the rear. That also gives me an opportunity to fit a small storage locker in the triangular space between the seat and the fridge - but more of that later.

There's a load of storage in here. We froze up meals and parcels of meat in meal sized portions. The middle section handled milk, drinks, veges etc with ease. The smaller section above the motor works beautifully for butter, eggs, cheese etc. .... and the real bonus - It holds 143 cans so Bek will have to get used to using the smaller fridges in the CT. 8)

Everything tucks away neatly and the little plastic window in the bag means the controls are both visible and accessible.

The 240 Volt recifier is easily accessible. The next step is to run another power socket down here so there will be a minimum of fiddling.

This works better at night - but the lights are easily visible through this section of the window.

This unit is bullet proof - and worth it's weight in gold. We only travelled with it for the last 6000 Kms of our trip and could not believe how we had coped over the first 9000 Kms without it.

    Thanks Pedro.

    Cheers

    Chippy,
Glad to see it is working well for you. Did so for us too but with just 2 of us was overkill.

Just a suggestion get yourself a Waeco temperature guage , stick some 3M Double lock on back of it and on the fridge cover along these lines

This is son of Waeco 110l (a CF50) with the 2nd battery in behind fridge.
    It holds 2 dozen stubbies.

Just bought a Waeco CF18 (fridge/freezer) to use as a freezer.

Photo of Son and Grandson of Waeci 110 litre

Each have their own temperature guage.

Notice the handpump for Polyair in the front

          Rob.
Yes. and don't think I am a genius.

When I picked up the unit today Toni , who looks after the factory seconds at Waeco, showed me how to fasten the top of transit bag to the side of bag so that the handle (like esky handle) can be used with the top of bag out of the way.
In other words unzip the top and fold back and attach the velcrose to velcrose at side of unit.
          If that makes sense.

            Chippy,

I know what you mean about the Waeco fitting perfectly. Unfortunately, my budget didn't stretch quite as far as the CF-110, but I recently got the CF-80 which has the same footprint and it fits perfectly in the rear. The deal I got from Anaconda in Brisbane came with a Free 105 Litre Waeco Esky. It's not fibreglass but one of the moulded plastic jobbies. Works like a charm and it's almost the same size as the fridge.

What that means is, Beer Esky on left, Food fridge on right... 8) Happy Days!!! Should make me a popular bloke with my mates when we eventually head up to the Cape.

Pedro, awesome setup. I can't afford 2 Fridges. You should have heard the Treasury department howl when I came home with this one!!

What is the rectifier used for? I have one that came with the CF50 I bought but can't see why i'd use it.

Whilst at home I plug the fridge into 240v using the appropriate adapter, whilst on the road I plug it into the 12v ciggie plug.

I'm thinking that the newer ranges of fridges use a plug / adaptor for either 12 or 240 V.

Back in the old days  the fridges only came with a 12 V plug and the rectifier is needed if you want to run it on 240 V.

... but then back in my day we used to shovel coal into the furnace to generate enough steam to spin the turbine to generate the electricity ........
