    ANYBODY HELP?

Installing a snorkel myself and trying to remove the plastic inner guard. Have removed all the holding screws, and plastic clips, but does not want to release along the outer edge.

Is there a trick to this or do I need to use more force? (07 gxl 120 d4d)

    Any ideas much appreciated..... thanks.

I ended up taking the flare off as my inner placcy guard wouldn't come out either, cupola more screws the flare is off and then inner guards out, and bit more room to much around
The flare clips are also the same clips the inner guard screws into at the fender lip

        Thanks Gypsy,

I didn't see the plastic clips under the flare. I'll remove the flair as well if I can work out which extra fixings need to be removed.

I just got quoted $590 for a safari snorkel at ARB Morafield (QLD).
$390 for the snorkel, $200 to fit.

Did anyone get any photo's of their installation?

I fitted mine by myself, its easy enough to do, just remember measure 50 times , cut once, i used a fine tooth holesaw , and a 6mm drill bit for the mounting bolts then a step drill, the pillar is the crutial measurement as there not much pillar thickness to muck around with if you get it wrong

the underguard clips near the edge of the fender are the ones that nearly always break when you remove them, the other end of that clip is the flare clip, after removing the screws bolting the flare at the front the flare pops off gently with a little pull and the clip usually stays in the fender, i then removed the clips and put int flare and popped the flare back on

Has anyone here had any experience with the Airflow or other cheaper brands?
I've had safari on both previous 4wd with no problems over years, but dollars are tight at the moment so wondering if its something that is really going to have any dire consequences?
                    Cheers, Dave

Hi birdboy, I have the Tigerz11 snorkel and find it o.k.

Buy o.k I mean its obviously not as well made as a Safari but you get when you pay for.
Installed it myself (PP tech day!) but I did have to trim the inside-guard duct as one end was too long.

That said my mechanic did manage to break the mesh grill on the snorkel head when running it though the carwash...
                      Cheers

                        Thanks 120D4D!
Bugger about the mesh! I had a Toyota dealer rip my UHF aerial off in their car wash years ago 3 days before a 2month trip to the Kimberly! Wasn't happy!
Yeah i'm hesitant to go something new as i never had any dramas previously with Safari. Toying with the idea of installing myself but see how i go. Generally pretty handy but don't know if i could cut into bodywork like that!
Don't need one urgently so might look at other mods first.
                        Cheers

Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten, I fitted an ebay cheap snorkel to my LR discovery years ago. Cannot remember how much I paid or saved when I fitted it myself but it is still a crap looking cheap snorkel. Buy quality, enjoy the item and only pay once.

                          regards

I hear ya Ross, but when the copy looks identical to the original and performs, it makes the decision harder...
p.s yes I have quality on-board too (ARB, RedArc, Optima, OME)

Agree with Ross. Yea I've seen snorkels from $120 on eBay but thought for $300 more it's a lot cheaper then a new motor or the like cause it splits due to shit materials. I was lucky and picked up a safari from eBay brand new for a 1/3 of the price (4wd shop clearing out old stock) but had I not bought it I certainly would have waited and saved a bit more for the safari over the cheaper brand. Are we paying just for the safari name ??? Maybe, but I've had them on 3 previous 4wd's so don't see the point taking any chances on having my motor going bang due to sucking water in through a dodgy snorkel... Cheers Steve

I hear both sides for sure! But at 120D4D said it's not always so clear cut.
I've always been more in favour of doing it once and doing it right so no doubt I'll just wait until i can afford a good one.
Apologies for asking questions that have been asked a million time too - just found a long thread about it all on here too.
