Sound Deadener Treatment

Wow, a search didn't bring up a single hit for "deadener". Either it's called something else, or this is the first post on this topic... I find that hard to believe.

Anyway, I would be glad to hear your thoughts on the Sound Deadener Treatment. I get the impression it may be worthwile.

I would espeically like to hear from anyone who has had the opportunity to compare vehicles with and without the sound deadener treament.

Bottom line... is this a waste of hard earned cash, or will it really produce a quieter cabin?

I don't think the prado's could get much quiter, waste of money.

Hi there, not sure if my experience is worth much without a comparison to a prado without it but I have it on ours and it is really quiet, not sure if it is any more quiet than one without though. It also helps to cover up the underside of the vehicle and protect from salt exposure.

You will have to make up your own mind, go for a few test drives, but as yet no one has complained of the Toyota D4D being excessively noisy!
You could also compare it with the Pajero :twisted:

I like to make data-based decisions. In this case, there seems to be no good data to make direct comparisons with.

The dealers don't have cars to test with the deadener treatment, so it's the 'honest-salesman' (excuse the oxymoron) saying "trust me".

I dunno, it's possibly not that expensive. Though, it will be the first thing to be dropped if the price exceeds my budget.

It is helful to know that there are no reports of excessive noised with the D4D.

I have several friends that have used Dyna Mat to lower the Db's in the FJ. It works well, but is heavy. It adds about 40-50 lbs to the vehicle, but is worth it. With lifts, Bull Bars, roof racks, and Snorkels the sound inside can get intense.

You have to take up the carpets, pillar covers, plastic paneling, and headliner. One side is adhesive and just sticks to the roof...an easy installation, but the panel placement is not for the novice.

Save money and turn the radio on .. the Prado cabin must be one of the quietest in the business.

It may be quiet to start, but add Bull Bar, Roof Rack, Lights, Skid plates, and MTZ's it starts to sound like a turbine cargo plane rolling down the road.

The car is now signed for ... and ... I decided to go with the Sound Deadener Treatment. My objective was to keep the whole thing under the Luxury Tax Limit, and I did that with all the options I wanted.

Sometime in the distant future, after mine gets delivered, I will be keen to test drive a non-treated vehicle with similar fit-out.

Then I'll have some real data, and I will either smile quietly or growl noisily :evil:

Either way, I'll come back here with my findings.

Sound Deadener will only works so well with a new car . In a old car the difference is felt and heard start away . In a new car which is already quiet , the gain is very small . Waste of money .... maybe .
