  • some advise needed!

    Hi everyone!

am after some advise from the experts!

ive had my 03 prado TD for 8 weeks now and am getting close to needing a service, ive never had a diesel 4x4 and used to go to profix for my other car but i now have the feeling that profix may be the wrong chioce.

    1. any one know of a good mechanic in the north east of adelaide sa?

have just bought a soverign bull bar for the GXL,

    2. where can i get it fitted? ive tried a couple of crash shops but none of them are interested.....

    3. am looking at installing an aftermarket 7" gps, dvd, reverse cam stereo system and want to also install a 15" roof mounted screen (as have 5 kids and need them all to be able to see the screen) has anyone done this?? know of any issues that may arise??

thanks in advance for any advise/direction!

I went to Profix in Mt Barker for a 70,000km svc and they even greased the bump stops on the steering...It was a good service.

I would think Profix would be as good as anywhere - it's only if you have a specific repairs that you need to be selective.
Ask Profix for a quote to mount your bullbar, it's not unusual for mechanics to charge $100+ per hour labour, so be prepared !!
As for DVD/GPS units, have a look/search on this forum, there are all sorts of opinions and brands to compare. Ebay usually has 6 or more choices, just search "prado GPS" and you should be right.

        Hi Marc,

I can help with the Sovereign Bullbar. I installed my own with the help of (funnily enough) Marc in Sydney. I also have the chassis pins in case the one you bought did not come with it.

If you have a socket set and some spanners and a mate or two to give you a hand it's not that hard of a job if you have the time.

As others have suggested mechanics will charge their hourly rate, and you'll most likely be charged for two hours to do it knowing/thinking that you will be none the wiser as to how long it would take.

Ultra Tune in Modbury did a good job of replacing the front drive shaft on my hilux.Good service & price. I will definately take the prado there for it's next service.
