    Hi all,

Just wondering about your experiences with recovery and 4x4 equipment.

What do you think are the essential equipment for 4x4 recovery??

What do you have fitted to your car or in the boot!!!

    My current list is
    1 x 9m 9 tonne black rat snatch
1 x 3m tjm tree protector (more used for coupling both front recovery points to stop the stress on only one side)
    2 x air compressors
Tyre deflaters set to 20 psi
    Exhaust jack.

Most of my 4wdriving is on Sand at the beaches, so my next purchase is a couple of 6m lengths of black rubber, (like conveyor belt stuff) so when I am bellied out in the sand, I can exhuast jack up each side, unroll the rubber to get the prado up to speed to get me out of those softer areas!

Anyone else got recommendation for the essential kit? What is in your Kit!!!
    2007 Prado D4D GXL - Waeco 50litre - Dual Batteries 105ah- Redarc Smart Start - Customline Camper Trailer(3rd 105ah battery) - 2 inch Ironman lift kit - BFG's 265/70-17

Wish List (Snorkel - car topper boat with 5hp)

I believe if you are 4wd'n you need descent UHF radio and a friend to help with recovery. The basics are:
              Compressor
              Snatch strap
              Equaliser strap
              Shovel
              Esky full of cold drinks
              Cold drinks
              Camera
              Good sense of humour.
              Cold drinks
The rest is dependant on what type of terrain you are driving in.
Sand driving is great if your tires are at the right pressure and you remember its not a beach buggy .

Some times you both get stuck ops:

A good shovel and an esky full of beer helps. Even the Fraser Island girl can help.
Seriously air compressor, shovel, snatch strap, good tyres, will all probably help. Driving in the sand at the hottest part of the day will help you get bogged, so soft difficult sections should be done early in the day. Oh dont forget the FI girl.
                Cheers

                  maxtrax 4wd recovery

The new "Maxtrax" at a couple hundred bucks looks like good insurance if you travel alone a lot as they will help you drive straight out of a bog.

I've used the maxtrax and found them to be wonderful. Though, my greatest gripe with them is that they are awkward to pack and a little on the expensive side. All the same, they worked just as advertised.

I recently stumbled across a you-tube video of the Bushranger SandTrack, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... +sandtrack. They appear just as effective as the MaxTrax but significantly cheaper, easier to use, and easier to pack. I wondered about their durability.

I'd love to hear from someone with personal experience with the Bushranger SandTrack product. http://www.bushranger.com.au/sandtrack.php.

BTW: MaxTrax website suggests $295. The Bushranger Sandtrack are $76 (each I beleive and you would need two).

                    Regards,
                    LFaR.
PS: I'm working on Christmas gifts...
