  • Hi Lift Jack Attempted Stealing

G'day Guys, need to vent a bit. I'm fortunate enough to get a bus to work as a shift worker, and have a short walk home which gives me a couple of moments to appreciate being a Prado owner as I have a perve on the 4wd in the carport before stepping through the front door.

Tonight I noticed my hi lift jack brackets didn't look quite right. Check the pics out, BAST@R&S, *&%#$*&$%##@, *&%$#@#$# and that was the tone of conversation for the next 2 minutes until I walked to the beer fridge and cracked a cold one.

I have a full length Tracklander roof rack and after much debate and painful parting of cash, opted for the Tracklander brackets as well. Hindsight glad I did, they tried to reef it off but because the rear of the bracket steps in and encapsulates the top tube it was going nowhere. They have snapped a couple bits of the expanded mesh and scraped some powder coating off though, which just gives me some work to do on my days off, Marvelous!!!

Anyhow the Missus kindly pointed out it could have been a lot worse with the jack and bracket gone. That's not the POINT, but she right..........Don't tell her okay!!!

Here's the kicker, obviously it was just an impulse walk by and have a go because all they needed was some tools to undo the lock nuts and presto..........Idiots. The jack was only on the truck as was going on a day trip that was cancelled and hadn't pulled it off yet. Still working on a locking mechanism, besides the lock nuts, that won't bang, flap and chip when on the road/dirt.

So guys be vigilant, any tips on powder coating/painting repairs, locks etc would be cool, be gentle. LOL. At least I'll only have to replace the rear clamp brackets.

Thanks for the venting time, scotch needs replenishing.

    CYA on the tracks.

        That sucks!

I always worry with various accessories that I have fitted that they might go walkabout. I keep the bare minimum on the car most of the time and fit things like my roof rack, basket, awning, etc. only when I need it. Partly because it won't fit in the garage if its fitted, but also because of punks like the one that had a go at your high lift jack.

It can be a pain though as when we go away it takes a while fitting all the gear, which just adds to the time needed to pack up and actually get on the road.

Obviously not everyone in the Pilbara is earning the big dollars. Somebody just couldn't afford to buy their own jack. Like the Pri%Ks around here who like CB antennas.

Those pieces of shit....what makes it worse is that the law will do nothing do them when they are eventually caught.

An attempt like that should cost a few teeth.

Yeah agree with Tauras, low life oxygen wasting thieves, shame they didnt get the high lift free and it then fell on their useless ugly head and gave them a few stiches along with the few they would need if I cought them. Can't believe people think they have a right to touch other peoples things, pisses me off no end and as tauras said all they get is a slap on the wrist and be a good boy. Wouldnt want to give them a flogging the do-gooders would be in a rage then, no wonder there is so many brainless dead beat thieves walking around stealing things and just been total wankers in general........Cheers Steve

Got Hi-Lift more for an insurance policy than anything else. As you can appreciate in the Pilbara temps can get quite high so getting stranded really not a good thing. There's a lot of places we go which have rocks on top of rocks on top of boulders.

What finally pushed me to getting one was when out with a mate he blew one of his front tyres coming down a rocky decline, he couldn't roll down out of it without turning which would have pushed the tyre off the rim. So he had to do it in place and only having a bottle jack made it quite a tricky change over, packing rocks etc in 36deg heat. So now I have bottle jack and hi-lift on board if required, bottle jack will probably cover most changes although with a 2" lift still need to have blocks/packers.

So having the tow bar and rocksliders gives me some better options with hi-lift and when I can finally bring myself to fork out for a steel bar, feel that tiny bit more comfortable when we head out to the middle of nowhere, which is pretty much what we do out here. As I said earlier it's more of an insurance policy, necessary evil like any insurance, begrudging to have to pay it but that one time when you write off a vehicle it's the best thing since the invention of beer, ok maybe took that a bit too far .

As for locking things up were generally pretty vigilant and that was my first oversight, lesson learned. My kingdom for a garage and a shed and all the tools and toys that go in a shed. Dear Santa, what are the winning numbers to the super draw.........what do you mean I didn't make the Nice List........
