I visited another ARB store today and he had more info about the CKMA12.

He tells me that very recently (only weeks earlier) the ARB compressor hose was replaced to address the hose-splitting issue. The hose he showed me certainly looked rugged enough to deal with heat issues.

He also uses the same pump in his truck and he said that this pump has never slowed down from tyre to tyre. That's a good sign.

So more good annecdotal evidence that ths pump is as good as advertised.

Byrnsie, I would be tempted to ask ARB for a change-over from your hose to the new one. Maybe they'll do the right thing and keep the change-over costs minimal (zero?).

Thanks LF&R. I will pay them a visit after Christmas. Certainly doesn't hurt to ask. ARB introducing a new hose should certainly be seen as some acknowledgment that the previous one had shortcomings.

Yes, I agree. Probably best to contact ARB Head Office, or at least a State Office, rather than go through a retail outlet... but who knows.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

And Merry Christmas to you too mate.

I received an email reply from Tim Scott, the author of the article in 4x4 Australia Dec 2007 Issue #287, "Inflation Rate". I have asked his permission to reproduce the email in its entirety here; just to maintain my objectivity.

Basically, he addressed my main concern. His testing methodology involved inflating the same tyre THREE times, which is good enough for me.

He also mentioned that the ARB was streets ahead of the other competitors. That pretty much makes up my mind.

            Merry Christmas,
            LFaR.

Just to add, I received an ARB compressor today, will report back on it's performance when it's fitted. The shop actually made the hose for the missus while she waited so there must be some known fault with the old one. Mine is just reinforced clear hose with crimp on fittings.

              Thanks
              Matt

                  Merry Christmas Matt!

What a lovely missus . I bet there was great joy in unwrapping that pressie.

Interesting information about the clear hose and it being reworked. I will try to get a photo of the new hose & connectors that the ARB shop was showing me - though he's closed 'till 7th Jan. I think it was an orange hose, and IIRC, it had what appeared to be snap-on connectors.

I'll be looking forward to reading your test results. Given we're now at boxing day, I'd reckon she must be just about installed and ready to fire up...

HAHA, yeah right. Fitted it all yesterday and against some peoples advice I plumbed them into my side steps. They probably are a bit small to do too much but I am impressed with my first impressions. Will report back later. Also, the hose I mentioned came with a clip on connector onto the valve similar to what I think the ARB hose has. Me being a tinkerer I cut that off and fitted a proper hand piece with a gauge on it. That way I dont need to worry about my separate gauge and also when I'm changing from tyre to tyre it allows the steps and hose to build up pressure again ready for the next one. The hose and fittings cost me $35 so I figure what the hell.
I also got a michelles sac's recovery bag so the above mentioned hose and the winch remote can go with all the straps and shackles. I knew I married her for a reason!

                    Thanks
                    Matt

Hey boys sorry for the delay

Heres a pic of my install and i'll give a report on its performance after tomorrows trip with fellow pointers  The switch and relay are mounted with the fuel filter and the small hose out of the side of the compressor feeds the side steps. You can see the hose I was talking about. It does one tyre really quite well but like you said, it depends on the third and fourth. Anyway, will let you know.

Matty, that's a top job - a very snug fit!

Was there much drilling involved? My wife will get nervous when I direct the pointy end of the drill at the nice new car. Heck, we don't even have it yet and already she's nervous when I mention what I have planned  .

Looking at your closeup pic of the compressor, it looks as though the back left bolt (viewers perspective) is not flush with the mounting feet. Is this the case?

Where did all that mud come from? Beautiful!

                        LFaR.

All the "feet" are on the body work. Looking at the pictures I see what you meen but I think it is just the bolts it comes with are domed with a square under the head to lock into the slotted mounting holes. What you can see is under the domed top of the bolt. Four 8mm holes is it. I didnt put a switch inside the car because I figured I wont need it running until I lift the bonnet and plug my airline in anyway. And the mud came from here  http://pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?...r=asc&start=30

I have the new ARB CKMA 12 High Output Compressor (with the orange hose) and did a timed test on four 265/70-17

                              Tyre 1, 16psi to 36psi = 1min 55sec
                              Tyre 2, 16psi to 36psi = 2min 00sec
                              Tyre 3, 16psi to 36psi = 2min 00sec
                              Tyre 4, 16psi to 36psi = 2min 05sec

I am more than happy with it.

                              Cheers, Terry
