  • Cargo Barrier Installation

G'day all, i've purchased a 2nd hand (excellent condition) Milford cargo barrier for the 120 Prado and i'm wondering if anyway has installed one previously as it hasn't come with instructions, but the mounting brackets are attached.
I'd like to receive your feedback prior to my installation attempt
    thankyou

OK Strange coincidence, just got mine (2nd hand) fitted today buy 4x4 installers. You'll find there are no instructions..because it's in the fitting kit..which I'm 99% certain you don't have! A lot of people see the sqiggly arms (brackets) and adjusting screws and think cool ..all there but when the barrier is initially removed, I'm 99% sure all the fitting brackets/plates to hold all these squiggly arms are left in the vehicles as they're a real pain to take out as all the internal trim has to removed. There is no financial incentive to do it esp if a govt fleet have been stripped and sold on.

Milford will charge you handsomely for the Fitting kit but they abide peeps doing this. I was made to sign a disclaimer and the installers had to remove the model/ manufacturers plate (not the orange one) from the barrier, although I was given it back. They reinstalled another special plate stating it was not new and there was zero come back on Milford. As I got my charcoal coloured one sandblasted and powdercoated black to match my lifestyle rack I'd already taken them off and re-zipp tied them anyway. Could easily re zip tie it to sell it on! I was really hesitant about doing this myself, so I ran through what had to be done. The bottom is easy but as well as pulling all the back trim off, you have to drill in the exact place and have drill depth stoppers..if you go too far your knackered. He was not feeding me lines, he genuinely said it was tricky and it took these pros @3 hours.

On leaving I asked for the instructions thinking this might happen!! Look I'm really glad I did not install this. I did not want it rattling and jumping in the back, it's not like Hilux washer jets, it performs an important task, it's now part of the car although I can unscrew it out easily. I'll post some pics on the lifestyle rack thread when there is good light. It all looks shmick tho!
I can scan and email the instructions if you wish..you can always PM me?? Mine is for the side curtain airbag models but I think they all fit the same, it just has cutouts!

Search this site for the install. Theres an awesome thread with handy pics on here. I used it to install mine. Same as you, got a second handy, bought the mounting kit from milford and installed it at home. no rattles, and takes 10 mins to pull out n reinstall rear seats if needed.

Just installed a Milford Barrier last month myself, Cargo Barrier $50 on ebay, Fitting kit $130 :O WTF.

Fitting kit comes with full instructions and everything you need apart from the 2 drill bits you need and a whole saw bit.

Back Interior pieces snap apart really easy, just pull it all out and crack into it. One thing i can suggest is be careful snapping pieces back into place, i got a bit slap happy and broke the bits that the screws go into to secure the plastic panels

I got a quote from ARB at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast about 3 months ago for a fitting kit and was quoted $70, with a three week wait. Seems prices vary a fair bit depending on where you are. I found fitting was not all that hard, a bit fiddly, but you definately need the instructions so as to get all the holes in the correct places. I to have a set of instructions i you need them.
              Cheers

Yeah..I never had the instructions before attempting. I was ordering other bits for the barrier from the 4x4 place and the F. Kit (@130). Just drove round there and they did it all at once. If I had all the other bits I would have done it myself with the instructions in the F .Kit. I believe it is fiddly but certaintly not undoable, even for someone with limited practical hands on know how!! It was another job to cross off..I just got lazy..I installed aftermarket bash plates requiring drilling..just got lazy with this one..but you do have to have the F .kit + instructions!
                Cheers

                  Hi all,
After experiencing similar issue of ARB quoting for fitting kit of betwen $100 & $140 (for 4 peices of steel and a dozen bolts..... bloody rip off!!!), so I decided to design my own install.
                  Here's what I did:
                  1. Mounted the Floor brackets to the tie down point (measured and drilled new holes to align and used high tensile bolt to attach to floor)
                  2. After looking at multiple mounting points, I decided to mount to the to the rear top grab handles location, using self made brackets from flat steel and again attaching with high tensile bolt.

All up the install took 50mins (including making the top rear brackets), and less than $10 on materials (high tensile bolts and flat steel)

I'm pleased your happy with the result. It's not so much ARB as Milford. Loads of ex govt barriers are flooding the market and going on fleabay..not much good for Milford as people aren't paying $500 + for their barriers. The only way they can get market share back is to have a relatively high fitting kit cost..in some people's eyes it's then more cost effective to buy new, as you get the full warranty and know it's provenance. They always recommend you bin second hand barriers..I dare say a bit like second hand SRS airbags!!??
