  • ARB Sahara Bar V ARB Deluxe Winch bar

    Hi guys,

I have read talk on both the above, but not in direct comparison of each other. I am seeking your opinions on which is better/more practical etc. and why? I have a quote of $1,919.20 fitted and colour coded for the deluxe, and $1,964.80 for the Sahara fitted and colour coded. So price difference not that large.

I am torn between which one I want to fit to the 2007 GXL D4D...... Any thoughts fellas. I like the looks of the Sahara but like the thought of the extra protection from the deluxe...... :? Anything I am not thinking about? I will eventually be fitting a winch to the bar, driving lights will be going on and will need space for 2 aerials.....

    Any comments will be appreciated.

    Cheers

    I've thought about this too

If you are not going to be doing much country driving I'd go the Sahara as you only need the bar for fitting accessories.

If you go out west and drive at night where the chances of hitting a roo are high I would go the deluxe.

thats how I rationalise it in my head

    cheers

      Hey Jonny,

I am leaning that way myself. I do do a bit of driving out in the country as wife and my family still out that way, so I am regularly in Kangaroo territory, so I think I am going to have to install the deluxe for "practical" reasons......

I do like them both anyway..........

      Cheers

My Thoughts! I have a 90 series and have the sahara bar, a guy at work has the same but with a deluxe. I love the sahara bar personally, It still has full protection around the radiator area where your main problems with a roo strike would be. Yes, it has no protection around the lights but this should not stop you driving home. If you hit a roo its going to most likely be an insurance claim so the extra damage should it happen would be claimed anyway... thats my thoughts anyway, I just love how the Sahara bar looks on the prado!

          Hi Brett,
I was just quoted in Perth from 2 shops $2750 colour coded, fitted and fog lamps for the sahara.
I may have to come to QLD to get one fitted

You have effectively summarised the basis of deciding between the two.

              Hi mototrim,

Those 2 quotes were without fog lights, after shopping around a few ARB outlets....

you need to buy in SA - Colour coded deluxe bar $1600

I had the same thought with the sahara bar - eventually went with deluxe as I preferred the look + provided some protection to the headlights

                Still waiting for my D4D.......................

I tossed it back and forth as well and didn't mind either one. In the end I went for the deluxe bar as they had it in stock!
Pretty much what others have said though, while the deluxe bar does offer more protection, if you get a big hit it will be an insurance claim anyway, so with the sahara bar it might mean a bit more damage, but you should still be able to get home

Go with the one you like the look of the best

I liked both and decided on the Deluxe as it gave a good indication as to the extremities of the front of the vehicle.

The Wife has found it handy in learning to judge where the front of the car actually is.

                      Thanks guys.

I think I will be fitting the deluxe. Appreciate the feedback.

                      HAMA,

Did the $1,600 include fitting as well???? Fantastic price if it did.

                      Cheers

I second that ! i paid just under $1600 for a ARB Deluxe Winch Bar FITTED , but i wanted it in the normal black powdercoat .

I dont know if im allowed to say this but the ARB "dealers" all quoted me right out of the book , i got many far cheaper quotes from the normal 4WD outfits .

I got mine from an ARB dealer and they looked after me. I paid $1650 colour coded. Took me an Arvo to fit up.

Damien , it may just be here but i tried the 3 ARB dealers in SA and i was given "outta the book" price , i asked what the best price was and they asked was i in a 4wd club , when i said no , they said that was the price .

so the quoted price WASN'T the best price .

but to go back on what i have just said , i done a but of phoning around for a roof rack today and got a discount at 2 of the ARB dealers . BUT i got a dealer buying price from the 4wd shop who fitted the bar so the dealers were way out of the picture anyway .
