  • ARB Deluxe Bar Recovery Points

    Hi all.

So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded (Moved) from a Sovereign Bar to the ARB Deluxe Winch bar. Question is!
Are the recovery points up to the task of Snatching?
What other options do I have if not?

    Thanks in advance.

Just be aware it seems that the 150 point only fit the early model 120's. The ones with the chassis tow hooks that are straight and welded to the bottom of the chassis.
The latter model 120 with the hook through the chassis and bent downwards, those 150 points dont fit , without cutting yout ARB support brackets.
        Cheers

I have the exact same setup...so the 150 recovery points will work on a 120 with the TJM T13 bar?

Short answer is they should be OK when used in conjunction with a bridle and correct snatching technique.

ARB don't say they are OK, they are not rated, but no recovery points are truly rated.

Fact is most people with this bar have been using these points for a long time with no major failures.

This subject is a minefield due to the lack of standards, there are sooooo many threads on this topic that you could read opinions for days and still be confused. Ultimately it doesn't really matter whether you or I or anyone else thinks they are OK, with the exception of the person snatching you, what they think,is the only opinion that really matters.

            Cheers Andrew

Very concise and straight to the point AJ.....kudos....im a little tired of the "which snatch point have you got? Is it rated and will the gtg prado gods approve it?"

If its got some serious bolts and a slab of 12mm steel and has a decent design then most likely it aint gunna move if mounted correctly and snatched correctly also....

Give it a crack I say mate!

                Andrew.
Thanks for that perspective. Lets give it a whirl I say......

Rather than snatching, maybe I just attach a snatch block to the back of my mates car and winch myself out!

I concur with the hatted white fella (AJ). I bridle the arb points. All good so far, although truth be known, its rare that I have to get snatched out as I usually have to recover AJ.........

I agree - in fact, in all my time on PP the only person I remember seeing cause damage to one (by bending it and I think causing it to crack) is 8608!

Mind you, I haven't seen many PPer's push their Prado harder, or drive more mud for that matter, than 8608.

If you really are unsure then snatch off the lower control arm or off both using a bridle. I have done a few snatches using the ARB fixtures of the bar and, like most others, without issues.

I can't recall (OK or bothered to be doing a search) the member, but they were able to fit the 150 recovery points on a 120 - but the catch is that the "tie down" points have to be straight - up to 2004. But this is from memory.
