    G'day Len,

Looks good, in Body Chassis, Recovery Points P5 a post from Richard shows what he purchased from ARB. These plates also pick up the bolt hole that is up and slightly forward of the bottom holes, if you could incorporate this hole in your design it would then give a triangulated effect with two points on the main chassis rail.

    Regards
    Bruce

As you can see, I have left out the top bolt near the radiator. This way may cut out the problem of the bolts contacting with the radiator or the other bolt thingy hanging down on the other side.

Have included an extra 12mm backing plate where the hooks go, just for more strength around those bolts, also an other backing plate goes on the chassis rail, but did not include that in the drawing.

      Thoughts from the forum?
i can't quiet work out all the measurements Len.
any chance you could email me, if it is clearer.

        HI Damonat

Just finsihed doing the mock up of the revision, as soon as i have finished checking the plans, I will posted them, and send them via PM to you. Are you able to load vsd files or would you prefer jpg?

And the reason you can not make the plans out is becuase a friend of mine used visio the other day and screwed my settings, still fixing them.

            actual mock up.

With any of the plans, I would suggest that you make a mockup out of ply first, see if there are going to be any problems, and then once you are happy, make up the points.

Am almost finished doing the mockup and pics/plans for the rear points

                    Re: DIY recovery points

As I type my supervisor is cutting me out a set of the smaller ones with a plasma cutter hahaha... love it. pics later when I get em chaps.

Ok, question. He has cut them out of 9mm plate steel, is this good enough, same dimensions as the smaller Outback style earlier in this thread. Will it be strong enough not being 12mm. Spose this is what ya get for freebies haha... :? If its good enough, just got to file off the outers and inners cuts and give it coat of paint.

                    Cheers

                      Re: DIY recovery points

Hello Len. Nice work with the recovery points. I had a set made earlier, basically a copy of the Outback Ideas version. I have not used them and are a little reluctant to do so. The top bolts next to the rad pass through some fairly thin steel here and in fact when I was tightening these up the bolt heads started to squash the radiator support. I really coudn't tighten them sufficiently for my own comfort. Through experience when you engineer something and it looks right, it usually is. Your latest version are what I thought was the most obvious way to get real strength here. Or failing that welding a tube inside this box section to prevent the crushing and sharing the torsional forces at work when these recovery points are used.
Could you also send me a copy of your drawings in a pm. Thanks mate. Love your work.

                        Re: DIY recovery points

i can tell you 4 1 that the points r more than adequate, on a recent trip to the watagans i had to snatch a bogged vehicle out in reverse, if you r worried about loading 1 point up use an equaliser strap, the bogged vehicle was sitting in the fueltanks in sloppy clay and i hit him 16 times to get him out, didnt show any signs of stress fracture or bending, if you r worried about crushing the chassis use a bigger washer, eg not thicker but a bigger surface area to allow more tension on the nut. cheers samo

                              Hi all

Hopefully in the coming weeks, I will have pics of the larger version of the recovery points, just waiting on Kimbos 08 GXL to be made available.

This will incorporate a design change, as noted earlier, the later models have had the tie down point moved up slightly to run through the chassis, not under it.
Once we have made/finalized the design, I will make the design available for all.
