  • Which bash plate is best?

I have been following the threads on different brands of bashplates.
    There seems to be three main companies that make them;

    TJM, ATS and Brown Davis.

Just after some opinions on which one is better.

The TJM is not the heaviest plate, but then again i don't want to flog a 55K vehicle through the bush, it certainly does the job for me, Depends what you want it for, if you are full on then go for something thicker, just remember over doing things just adds unnecessary weight that you might not need.
As i said it comes back to what u r using it for.

We put on the TJM plate after trashing two of the Toyota plates simply reversing where I couldn't go and getting them caught. This was before a 2 inch suspension lift.

Had no problems with the TJM. Got it fitted at Outback 4x4 in Bayswater for $200. Had no problems since.

I purchased the Brown Davis bash plate a couple of weeks ago. It's heavy duty and has the advantage that it covers from the radiator mount right back to the back of the diff housing. An added advantage is that it allows ventilation with its vent holes at the front with mesh to stop seeds, grass etc.

              Hi Leachy,
I am going to make a Chippy design A/C cond. Radiator protection plate for my 07/08 GXL/Sov bar arrangment.
Have made up a simple drawing and will get a bit of 3mm Al. checker plate.
The drawing is not final until I fit the plate as there will be some mucking around cutting the slots to miss the existing bash plate front safety tabs which are an important safety item.

The front of the Brown Davis bash plate is mounted at the same point as the standard bash plate. It fits nicely with my ARB bar, but I think you will want a splash plate between your Soveriegn bar and the bash plate.

If I were to rate them for durability

                    1. ATS - it a thickest about 10mm
                    2. Brown Davis - they are about 3mm thick
                    3. TJM

As you would expect the first one is most expensive and the last one is
                    the least expensive...

TJM is around $200mark, Brown Davis $300+ mark, ATS one is triple the cost of Brown Daivs...

As I understand it, the photos above are of a pre-production prototype.

The guard has evolved from the one shown above. It is a one piece unit and the 2nd piece is optional. I have the front one only. This replaces the two standard Toyota plates. In my experience, on my previous 120, the most vulnerable part is the front Toyota bash plate. The transmission sump is tucked up high so isn't really vulnerable IMHO. This isn't covered by the Toyota plates either, apart from the flimsy rear plastic piece that is bolted at the front only. The downside of extra guarding is that it may hold weed etc (possible fire in the desert??). It now has screened ventilation holes at the front and is powder coated black. Here are some pics:

While I paid $250 for my guard at Brown Davis, I believe the price has gone up to $290. Still pretty reasonable value I recon.

I just fitted the TJM plate and it fit very good.

A bit disapointed that they didnt recess the bolts like the origional but hey what do you expect for $250 bucks

Is it a front bash plate or middle one you had done as when I enquired at TJM they didn't do front plates?
