OEM GXL Stereo Question

Guys, can anyone tell me if the OEM stereo plays MP3's that have been burnt on a CD/R? I can't find an answer in the manual or on this site.

I was under the impression they were supposed to do this but I've just burnt some songs onto a CD/R & the stereo won't play it, I get a message on the screen saying "No Music", indicating it can't read the CD.

Or do you need to use an Ipod to listen to MP3's?

The unit should play CD/R mp3s without any problems. I have no problems. After you burnt the CDs, did you go through a disk close off process? This closes the CD so that it can't be written to any more and makes it readable on other systems. If you haven't, try doing it and see if it makes a difference.

also i find the disk can make a difference... on mine (not OEM) the cheap ones like TDK don't work but i have no issues with Sony..

It didn't ask me to close it off, the burning just finished. All the songs are on the CD, I can play it fine on my laptop.

Yeah I only use good quality Sony CD/R's.

Hi ChrisD,

On p.4 of the manual it states that this deck can play CD-R and CD-RW...

Note that this format is not the same as CD+R or CD+RW.

In your post, you mentioned CD/R (which there ain't no such thing but a common abbreviation that leaves everyone guessing ).

I suspect you have CD+R????

CD's dont have the formatting like you suggest above.

Only DVD's.

Sorted it out, downloaded another program (Express Burn) & burnt the songs as a Data Cd.

if you still have the standard system mat it wont play mp3s, later models did bt mine and yours r just cd player with radio, i bought a mp3 player that plugs into your ciggi lighter an has a fm transmitter built in, it takes a std sd card or a usb flash drive, just copy the mp3 files onto a card/flash drive and plug it in, works like a charm, cost $50 from jaycar and you can even plug ya ipod into it.

What burning software are you using?
You can normally play burnt MP3 CDs in the same cd burner used to burn the CDs. You can normally open the burning program and close the disk. This allows other cd or mp3 players to read the cd.

Try this, or another CD manufacturer and make sure you use the correct format.

Well I was having issues until I downloaded this program here. Try that one mate, it's very easy to use & it's free. Then burn your MP3's as a Data CD, not a Audio CD.

Don't forget you have to burn it as a "data cd" not a music cd. Also, if you put a few albums on the cd keep them in folders. That way they play in order and are easier to find.

I use Nero for burning everything and anything. Now if only I can get my dual boot Vista and Mac OS to play the game.
