  • ARB Bumper Fitting Query

    Hey all!

Im going to fit my ARB Sahara Bar this weekend, but after reading as many posts on the subject as I can, unless Im being thick, I really cant figure out what changing the steel body mount spacer does??? Its discussed in points 7-9 in the ARB fitting instructions.

I cant get my head around how this has any effect on the actual fitting of the bumper, any thoughts appreciated.

If its the little bar that sits between the original bumper and the chassis mounts. Then it is required to be removed as the ARB item bolts up to the chassis at this point.

Also check here for a little photo essay on my install

          I am not sure then...

I would give ARB a call and ask them. If its intent is the reduction of body height then i would definitely give them a call as that is not the current thinking.

I did not have to remove my body mount and the only difference between your bar and mine is only the big chrome loop instead of the rest of the bar work i have.

From memory ..... and it is a memory that is fading with age ops: ... the earlier ARB bar installations added an extra washer to the body mount to compress the rubber a little bit more and reduce the visual vibration of the bar when driving.

I believe that this is no longer the thinking when installing the ARB bar as it was thought that stiffening this body 'shock absorber' up was contributing to body cracking on corrugated roads.

Hope this makes sense ... and I'm sure there's a few guys on line, with recent ARB bar installs, who can confirm or deny this.

            Cheers

Mmm that sounds worrying!!!! Definitely, if anyone else who has done a recent one could confirm for me if this is the case, I assume I can just not bother fitting it then?? And if ARB says different fit it later??

When I fitted mine I did nothing to that mount.

I remember something about replacing that mount on the earlier ones as well.

Maybe its old stock or it has old destructions?
