Prado Rear Spoiler

I am new to this forum and am impressed with the mass of information available. For a number of years I have jealously looked upon my neighbours 2003 Grande, and in particular liked the rear spoiler. Well as all things come to those who wait, I finally ordered my own 2008 D4D Crystal Pearl Grande on the weekend . The dealer says he may be able to get one before the end of June , otherwise I will be waiting till Sep/Oct! :cry:

Anyway, I wanted a rear spoiler just like my neighbour, but it appears the design of the rear spoiler has changed between 2007 and 2008, and although I haven't seen one in the flesh, the brochure pictures of the 2008 spoiler look ugly. The $800 price tag also put me off!

Does anyone know if the 2007 type spoiler can be fitted to the 2008 Prado, and if so, are there any tricks I need to keep in mind if I do. I note you can buy them on Ebay unpainted for $120, but not sure whether you get everything you need, or the quality.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not aware that there's been any design change to the top of the rear door area of the 2008 Prado's. I'm not aware of the different rear spoiler, but that doesn't mean there isn't an updated one out there. Just looking at the rear spoiler in my 6 month old brochure it appears the same as the one on the Toyota Australia website.



Not to be confused with the "Rear Visor" which deflects air down over your rear window to remove dust.




There are a lot of aftermarket parts doing the rounds too so just keep that in mind also. I don't see a problem with fitting a current rear spoiler from the Toyota parts shop to a 2008 Prado. Once the new Model Prado arrives though all bets are off....

Thanks IRON-PAWW and Team Piggy. It seems you can look at that pic and see 2 different profiles. Anyway based on the links you gave me it seems the 'spoiler' is just bling and no value, but the dust deflector is worthwhile, so I might go that way.

Hi Johnboy, I can vouch for the Deflector - it works well in dusty conditions and was a lot cheaper than $800.

With the comments posted here and the comments I have read elsewhere (thanks TP) I've decided to skip the spoiler idea, and look at the dust deflector once I have the car. On that note, having ordered it at the local Canberra Toyota dealership on Saturday (yes 31 May) I was informed today it would arrive in Canberra on 20 June and ready for delivery by 27 June . I guess I'm one of the lucky ones!

Yes very well done on the delivery wait time! Mine took 6 months plus a healthy swag of 1/2 truths....

Buy the stuff now and have a weekend putting all on Thats what I did and it was the best fun I'd had in a long time!! I also put the rear dust deflector on mine and it looks very good once on there. Does a decent job of clearing the back window too!
