  • Rear Replacement Bar/Dual Wheel Carrier

Need to set up a 'spare' spare for Cape/Desert trips. Had mild heart attack at the $3k+ Kaymar set up. Any suggestions on some more $ friendly alternative products?? Got an ARB Rooftop camper - so don't want to add any more weight on top!

Opposite Lock also make one... try them for a price.

An alternative would be to just take a tyre (No rim) and ratchet strap it to the spare on the rear door. You would of course need tools/training to change it.

I will chase a price in the morning and let ya's all know on the thread.
I'm not expecting it to be at a bargin price, I bet it's a couple of $K at least and I think the swing away wheel carriers are extra.

Unfortunately for us, I don't know what's happened to Opposite Lock in Newcastle - tried to ph but number is disconnected. We did get hold of WA Dealer on 1800 number - comparative setup is similar in $'s to Kaymar.

That would be great - the number in the local ph book and all the magazines is not correct. Are they still in Rural Dve Sandgate?

Yep - that's TJM - differnet group. I thought it was a coincidence - the name Grant (he has TJM shop in Bundy too). We basically get everything through Grant. Great guy, as is Daryl, and the mechanics - especially Martin - are top shelf. We're actually getting Mickey Thompson ATZ's , Opensky Awning and Black Widow Cargo Barrier Divider and shelf done there on Friday. Great $$$'s - GREAT service!!!

Opposite Lock is a totally differnt company. They used to be in Warrabrook, then moved to Rural Dve in Sandgate. Might have to go for a drive by there to see if they've packed up. Will post my findings!

We have a bit of a joke with him whenever we go there (which, by the way is OFTEN!!!), that unlike visits to our local Dive Shop which costs us in $500 increments a visit - 4wd shop visits cost either $1k, $2k or $3k increments!!!!

Thinking of just getting our wages directly deposited into his account... ha ha.

                      Hi Mal&Mel,
If you are spending lots of time a Month or two up the Cape I would carry a Spare Spare, but not just for a week odd visit, carry a good quality Puncture repair kit, spare valves and a good quality 12vdc air compressor.
A spare spare is good insurance but lots of additional mass for a Prado
                      Just a thought from FNQ

                        Hi Clifton!

Thanks for the tip! We're intending to take 5 weeks up your way! We learned the benefits of a good puncture repair kit coming down the Old Ghan Line through the Finke Desert. We got an old rail spike through the tyre. Plugged it up with the repair kit - and it took us back safely to Newcastle. Rail Spike is now an ornamental talking piece!!!

We have the sort of luck that a 'spare' spare is an essential!!! We are travelling with a group and will be up there next August!!! Thanks again!
